The betting market should be closely monitored with regards to the newcomers but experience is heavily favoured and ROCK OF AFRICA from the Vaughan Marshall yard gets the nod. This son of Seventh Rock showed how important experience is when he made huge improvement in posting an eye-catching second run over this distance at Greyville. He had little go his way that day but still quickened up smartly before finding the expensive newcomer Last Winter too good for him. Still, he stayed on for a more than creditable 2nd and should continue to improve. His smart turn of foot could be a major asset on this track and he is the yard’s only runner on the day.
Race 2: ANDERMATT(1)
Jockey: Anthony DELPECH – Trainer: Alistair GORDON
The speedy ANDERMATT showed good improvement when she only weakened late under Delpech over this c & d second time out. That was in a decent field & her conqueror finished 2nd in a feature next time out which boosts the formline. The Western Winter filly should continue to improve and she merits respect in this field.

Jockey: Sean VEALE – Trainer: Dennis DRIER
It could pay to follow the progress of Andermatt in the previous contest as the top rating here, ANIME finished a short head in front of that rival over six furlongs on this course, five weeks ago. The Dennis Drier inmate possibly found the trip too far for him but she had a smart debut over this c & d prior to that. The daughter of Count Dubois has lots of scope for improvement and she should go very well in this line-up.
Race 7: JUDDERING ANGEL(3)
Jockey: Anton MARCUS – Trainer: Joey RAMSDEN
The Joey Ramsden inmate JUDDERING ANGEL had an encouraging first outing in the province and he is extremely well handicapped in this field. The son of Judpot was caught late when dead-heating for 2nd over 1950m on this track and the effort would have brought him on. He will prefer racing over this extended trip and has huge claims with Marcus retaining the ride. The bay gelding is his trainer’s only entrant on the card.

The Lucky Houdalakis stable has an excellent seasonal record on this inside track and STERLING HEIGHTS could continue that trend. The daughter of Ideal World was slightly disappointing second time out after an eye-catching sprint debut. However, that was her first start on the testing inside track at Turffontein and she could prefer racing on today’s course. Her pedigree suggests that she will relish this rise in distance and the bay filly could be major contender from her good draw.
