RACE 1
YOU HAVE MY WORD showed signs of needing his last run when making minor progress in the latter stages. His prior form for Schofield is attractive and can get back to winning ways. NUREMBURG found himself in front last time in a slow run race. He was only passed in the final furlong and a repeat of that effort should see him go close. SMART THINKER placed last time over a mile and if suited to the slight drop in trip, should make his presence felt in this opening contest.
RACE 2
SEIZE THE SPIRIT found a form return last time out under Piccone. He doesn’t take on the strongest rivals today and it is encouraging that Piccone retains the ride. MANNA FROM HEAVEN produced a career best effort last time. He will have to confirm that effort to give pundits any hope in future races to come. JIANGXI STAMINA returned well after a six month layoff. He finished well from ten lengths off the pace and should be doing his best work in the latter stages.
RACE 3
NEW FUTURE made vast progress in his second outing when producing a strong late burst to earn victory. He should still be ahead of the handicapper and can make it quick back-to-back wins. SUPER TEN tired late last time when asked to dictate matters. He is drawn best of all and may be able to finish closer as a result. GOLD COMET was one paced last time out but showed some potential in his penultimate run. He is still lightly raced and more improvement from him is expected.
RACE 4
HOT CHILI PEPPER showed guts and determination when narrowly falling short last time out. He trades one world-class jockey for another and will be looking to make amends. GALACTIC produced a fair effort last time despite failing to find cover. With better luck in running he should be right there at the business end. SMART WONGCHOY found a form return last time. He gets French ace Badel in the saddle and will be hoping to confirm his recent improvement.
RACE 5SUPER MISSION unfortunately had no luck in running in his last two starts. He got cramped for room at a crucial stage last time and was force to produce his run later than expected. He gets a talented rider in the saddle and represents decent each-way value for Hong Kong racing pundits. BRANDING POWER is an unexposed sort that has placed in his last two starts. He jumps from an inside draw, is still on the upgrade and can pose a threat to the top selection. DECISION TWELVE has been thereabouts in all his career starts and should run into the money once again.
RACE 6
GREEN ENVY followed up his recent win well with two decent efforts. He raced wide without cover last time and with better luck in running, will be difficult to peg back in the closing stages. SHANGAI DRAGON caught his rivals flat-footed last time when going from gun to tape. He may adopt similar tactics this afternoon and must be considered. SPEEDY OPTIMIST is better than his moderate last start suggests. His form at Sha Tin is slightly concerning but if putting his best foot forward he can run into the money.
RACE 7
BAY TIBBS is a South African-bred who showed plenty potential on home soil. He makes his Hong Kong debut and the booking of Teetan to ride is somewhat significant. If fit and well he can make a positive start abroad. The only concern is that despite having three trial runs, he still may be in need of the run. TRUE LEGEND is drawn wide but has the pace to overcome it without using up too much energy. He drops back to six furlongs which should be right up his alley. CRAIG’S STAR reunites with Chadwick who partnered him to victory in October. If putting his best foot forward, he can run into the money.
RACE 8
CALIFORNIA RAD was given a peach of a ride to win his last start. He jumps from pole position and the manner in which he won his latest suggests there is another one in the tank. It must be noted that he has won a couple of races in the past under Teetan. BEAUTY SMILE won his last start well. He jumps from an inside barrier and although he faces stronger, he can pose a threat to the top selection. STAR SHINE placed third last time at Happy Valley. He also races fairly well on this course and can run into the money.
RACE 9
SIGHT SUCCESS showed some versatility last time out when setting the pace and going “start to finish”. He won a lot easier than the margin suggests and should still be ahead of the handicapper. He will be looking to keep his unbeaten record intact. WELLINGTON moved up like a winner last time and was caught in the shadow of the post. He will be at home over 1200m and can get back to winning ways. CALIFORNIA DEEPSHOT had excuses at the start last time out. His consistent prior form catches the eye and he could be upset potential in this contest.
RACE 10
The South African-bred SUPER DOBBIN is racing off a competitive handicap and is the narrow first selection in a wide-open contest. He produced a fair effort last time when staying on strongly at the finish. His penultimate run catches the eye when despite over-racing, finished well in the middle of the track and a repeat of that effort, should be tough to beat. PRIVATE ROCKET proved that he is over the issues that set him back in his penultimate run. He will benefit from a 3kgs claiming apprentice and must be considered. TRUST ME hasn’t finished far off the winner in his last four starts. He shoulders a handy galloping weight and can run into the money.
RACE 11
SUPER FOOTBALL is the best bet on the card. He is a progressive sort that won his last start in fine fashion. Purton has kept faith in the ride and the pair can make it back-to-back wins in the lucky last. CASIMIRO shifted at the 200m mark last time and ran on strongly to win under Chadwick. His penultimate run is best ignored as he was reported to have mucus which definitely hampered his performance. HELENE WISDOM STAR placed third last time out and made a significant breathing noise in the pull-up. If over those issues he can run into the money once again.
