Racing this Thursday sees an exciting card at Sha Tin Racecourse which includes the running of ten competitive Handicaps all on the turf. The best bet, value bet and bi-pot must be followed closely.
VALUE BET – SUPER FOOTBALL ridden by M. Poon
BEST BET – SPEEDY MOUSE ridden by Z. Purton
Race 1 – Time: 07:00 Class 5 Handicap – 1600m
JOY MASTER won his last start well over this distance and remains in Class 5. He is drawn wide which is a slight concern but will be looking to make it quick back-to-back wins. DIAMOND STAR hung at the 300m mark last time and probably should have finished closer as a result. If keeping on a straight line, he should be able to throw out a challenge to the top selection.
Race 2 – Time: 07:30 Class 5 Handicap – 1200m
FOR FUN’S SAKE won his last start on the All Weather track and remains in Class 5. He shoulders more weight, switches back to turf and from his inside barrier, should give another good account of himself. WAYFOONG STAR found a form return last time on the All Weather Track under French ace Piccone and if confirming that effort, should make his presence felt.
Race 3 – Time: 08:00 Class 4 Handicap – 1200m
MONSTER KAKA produced a fair last effort despite racing wide without cover. He hasn’t won a race this year but looks fairly-handicapped and must be respected with Purton in the saddle. HAPPY GATHERING has placed in his last two outings at Happy Valley. He is drawn wide but with even luck in running should be right there at the business end.
Race 4 – Time: 08:30 Class 4 Handicap – 1000m
GREEN ENVY took over the lead at the 500m last time and kept finding all the way to the line. He takes on stronger but should give another good account if adopting similar tactics. JOYFUL WIN followed up his most recent win well when finishing third over this distance at Happy Valley. He will benefit from an apprentice claim and the break may have done him the world of good.
Race 5 – Time: 09:00 Class 4 Handicap – 1200m
GREAT HARVEST is in search of a hat-trick of wins. He steps up in class and the booking of Teetan to ride bodes well for this individual. He is a sort that likes to dictate and if allowed to have his own way in front, may be hard to peg back in the closing stages. INFINITE POWER went from gun to tape in his most recent victory. He is likely to challenge the top selection for the lead and should go close to winning this contest.
Race 6 – Time: 09:30 Class 4 Handicap – 1800m
TAILOR MADE found one better in his last start over slightly further. He won his penultimate start well over this distance and may be at best between 1600-1800m at this stage of his career. He shoulders a light weight and could be one to cause an upset. RED ELYSEES followed up his most recent win with a fair effort over this distance at Happy Valley. He is well-drawn in barrier 2 and reunites with Bentley who rode him to perfection in his penultimate start.
Race 7 – Time: 10:05 Class 2 Handicap – 1800m
SUPER FOOTBALL was cramped for galloping room at the 250m last time and probably should have finished closer as a result. He is drawn pole and with better luck in running definitely represents decent each-way value for Hong Kong racing pundits. LOOKING GREAT is better than his below par last outing when caught three-deep. Moreira will want him to settle a bit closer to the pace this time and can get back to winning ways.
Race 8 – Time: 10:40 Class 4 Handicap – 1400m
AWE got going too late last time when narrowly beaten at the wire. He has cracked a slightly better draw and it is encouraging that Shinn has kept faith in the ride. THUNDER STRIKE is relatively unexposed and he showed some potential in his last start under this apprentice. He has plenty scope and from pole position, should be able to challenge the top selection.
Race 9 – Time: 11:10 Class 3 Handicap – 1200m
SPEEDY MOUSE won in impressive fashion last time out over this distance. The manner in which he drew away from the opposition suggests there is plenty more to come from this individual. Purton has kept faith in the ride which is encouraging and the pair should take a power of beating. THE GOLDEN SCENERY produced an eye-catching debut over this distance. He should come on nicely with that run under the belt and should give the top selection a good run for his money.
Race 10 – Time: 11:50 Class 3 Handicap – 1000m
METRO WARRIOR has finished runner-up in his last two starts. He showed guts when narrowly beaten over this distance last time and will be looking to make amends in the lucky last. JOYFUL FORTUNE battled on nicely to get up and win his last start. He should strip a much fitter horse and is capable of making it back-to-back wins.
