Race 4

GAME THEORY has shown marked improvement in his last two starts, the latest when finishing second over 1300M, 0.8L behind the winner. He was slow away that day, but then shot to the head of affairs, before being run out of it very late. He has a handy draw two and if he has continued down that same path of improvement, he could be the one that they all have to beat.

WAR CABINET followed up his penultimate run victory over 1300M with a fifth-place finish next time out over this mile journey, just under two and a half lengths back from the winner. He jumped slowly that day and then had to be eased at the 1100M mark, so that effort was encouraging. He has drawn the widest of them all in gate ten but does have his peak run after returning from a 37-week break.

HIGH TRIBUTE is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys, but she did not get the clearest of runs in the home straight last time out over 1500M, having had to be switched at the 300M mark before ending up in third place, 2.4L adrift of the victor. She has a kinder draw five and should give the males a good run for their money.

Race 5

A 5yr old and a 7yr old mare could fight out the finish to this race and complete the exacta, but the day’s value bet, APACHE BELLE is taken to lead the pack home. She missed out on her hat-trick last time out when finishing third over this c&d, six and a half lengths adrift of the winner. She found herself at the back of the field that day and then came three-wide into the home straight, but then finished her race off well. She has a cosy draw three to aid her cause.

JOE’S JOY is drawn one inside the top choice and has finished closer to the winner in her last three starts, the latest when second over ten furlongs, just a head off the winner. She was denied a clear run at the 250M mark and then again at the 200M pole, so that effort was encouraging. The form of that race has also been franked.

ARABOLINI went from jump to wire when winning his last outing over 2100M by two lengths. He has pulled gate four and will have 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice, so should not be lightly dismissed in this line-up.

Race 6

SNIPER LEGEND is a 2yr old colt taking on older horses, but he showed the expected improvement to win by one and a half lengths over 1100M at the second time of asking and the form of that race has been franked. He jumps from gate eight, but he is a speedy sort who no doubt would have learnt from the two outings and should have more improvement to come. As such, he is taken to be the best bet on the day’s program.

SHADOW COLOUR jumped awkwardly but then shot to the front before being nabbed in the shadow of the post last time out over five furlongs, to fail by just a head. He has gate six and could emerge as the biggest danger to the top choice.

STOICAL won his penultimate run over five furlongs when returning from a 17-week break and then finished fourth in his next start when stepping up to 1100M, three lengths adrift of the winner. He faces the widest draw of them all in gate nine, but nevertheless, he should be involved in the finish.

Race 7

RUPERTAAR is a 2yr old filly taking on older horses of her own sex, but she won by three and a half lengths when making her debut over five furlongs and could be just about anything. She had four barrier trials before then, winning two of them, so she was well-tried. She will have to negotiate gate ten, but she has plenty of early toe and could prove to be a cut above this field.

DUCHESS had her consistency rewarded with a two and a half-length victory last time out over five furlongs at this track. She shot clear at the entrance to the home straight that day and then held off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. She gets a kinder draw four and the services of ex-SA jockey Keagan Latham, so will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

LINGUEE missed out on her hat-trick when finishing seventh in her last outing over six furlongs, 3.7L back from the victor. She overraced in the early and middle stages that day and seems likely to enjoy the drop in trip. She has cracked pole position and should be included in all bets.

Race 5

LIBERTY HEAD has shown steady improvement in his last three runs, culminating with a short-head victory last time out over seven furlongs at this venue. He has pulled gate seven and a repeat of that last effort would see him in the winner’s box once again. As such, he is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

VEGA DE LAGO finished strongly when making solid improvement to win his last start over seven furlongs by 1.3L. He is drawn the widest of them all in gate twelve, but on the plus side, he will get 2kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.

SALAD DODGER
has posted two encouraging last efforts, finishing third in the latest over five furlongs, 1.3L behind the winner. He overraced and came four-wide into the home straight that day, so that effort was encouraging. He faces a wide gate ten, but nevertheless, he should be involved in the finish.

Race 6

PREVISO followed up his penultimate run victory over six furlongs with an eleventh place finish next time out over a mile, just under six lengths back from the winner. He was however forced to race three-wide from the 600M mark that day and should have finished closer to the winner as a result. From draw five, he could be the one to side with here.

DANSPUR showed marked improvement to end up in fourth spot last time out over this c&d, 1.8L adrift of the victor. He has pulled a wideish draw nine but will have 2kg removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice to aid his cause.

LOOSE BUTTONS is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys, but, although recorded as finishing sixth last time out over today’s journey, she was just 2.8L off the winner, after making good late progress. She has cracked pole position and should give the males a good run for their money.

Race 7

The day’s value bet, CRYSTAL BILLY finished third in his latest outing over the c&d, 1.7L behind the winner, but he loves this track, having recorded three of his four victories to date at this venue. He has a cosy gate three and has his peak run after returning from a 25-week absence.

PRETEXT’S DREAM finished well when winning his last start over six furlongs at this track by a head. He has a tidy draw six and will get the services of a 2kgs claiming apprentice. He is not without a chance of chalking up a quick double here.

RAR RAR is a 4yr old filly taking on males, but she put a disappointing penultimate run firmly behind her when putting 2.8L between herself and the opposition to win next time out over six furlongs, despite overracing early and being hampered at the 900M mark. She was friendless in the betting markets that day and whilst draw deep in gate thirteen out of fourteen, she should be right up there when they hit the line.

Race 8

LOOSE BUTTONS is a 3yr old filly taking on boys and has finished 2.8L behind the winner in her last two outings, over six furlongs in the first and over seven furlongs in the latest, so perhaps the in-between trip will be to her liking. She has drawn gate three and has her first run for her new trainer. If fully settled into her new surroundings, she should give a good account of herself today.

WRITE ON finished eighth in his last outing over this trip, five and a half lengths behind the winner, but he has won a subsequent barrier trial to boost his confidence. The colt jumps from gate six and will have 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.

EQUITIES stayed on well when seventh last time out over six furlongs 8.4L behind the winner and the form of that race has been franked. He will have to negotiate draw ten, but he gets the blinkers re-fitted today and should be doing his best work late.
