He is 2kgs worse off with the runner-up but should appreciate the extra 100m and is certainly the one to beat.

The fillies could have a big say in this Grade 3 sprint and the brilliant GREEN PEPPER is expected to continue her winning ways. The bay filly is 5 from 6, with a short head defeat in KZN the only thorn in her formline. It is most encouraging that her conditioner’s horses are racing well again after a virus in the yard and this daughter of Gimmethegreenlight has already beat some useful male rivals on the Highveld. She has a strong turn of foot so the likely suicidal pace will play right into her hands.

The brilliant miler LEGAL EAGLE once again found one too good for him in the Met last time but should quickly resume his winning ways back on home turf. The multiple Grade 1 winner is undefeated from five outings over this distance, including capturing this event a year ago. The Tarry inmate races fresh after the Cape escapade nine weeks ago and he has this contest at his mercy.

Once again the Guineas formline dominates the male version of the prior Grade 1 contest. The fast improving colt AL SAHEM tasted the first defeat of his career when he just failed to overhaul the brilliantly ridden JANOOBI over the mile that day. However, today’s extra furlong and the fact that the Tarry inmate will be fitter are major factors in favour of the son of Silvano who appears headed for the tops. There are a few frontrunners in the field and the likely strong gallop could play right into his hands.

As expected, the Guineas formline is well-represented in this Grade 1 event but the extra furlong could make a significant difference. The well-bred BABBLING BROOKE has more than four lengths to find with the smart and easy winner SMILING BLUE EYES on their last meeting in the contest referred to above but she ran on again at the finish, indicating that this extra furlong and beyond will suit her perfectly. The daughter of Western Winter looks a top prospect for the Oaks but still her world class jockey could make the difference today and she has definite each/way claims.
