Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 2: ANGEL OF LIGHT(4)
Jockey: Gavin LERENA – Trainer: Erico VERDONESE

ANGEL OF LIGHT attracted outside betting support when she made a bright debut over this c & d, three weeks ago. She endured a bump at the start and was understandably green, but the daughter of Mambo In Seattle ran on strongly for a good 2nd, beaten just under two lengths at the line. She was in turn one length in front of the 3rd placed runner and subsequent winner Dukes Dime and the bay filly now gets equipped with alumites for the first time. She has obvious scope for improvement and should take a power of beating.

Race 3: ARPAD(2)
Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE – Trainer: Brian Wild

ARPAD has improved with each outing and he finished strongly for a close 2nd over this c & d, two weeks ago. He was just over half a length ahead of the 3rd placed runner HEVER CASTLE but has more room for improvement and is the one to beat. The latter is again favourably drawn and is an obvious contender.

Top Bet
Race 5: FRENCH NAVY(1)
Jockey: Anton MARCUS – Trainer: Sean TARRY

This is a most intriguing renewal of the Grade 3 London News Stakes as the field of eight doesn’t include a known frontrunner. There is every chance that this could turn into a sprint for home but the obvious hope is that the class of track specialist FRENCH NAVY could prevail, albeit he usually prefers a solid gallop. The son of Count Dubois’s rating tells the full story and he got back to winning ways with an expected easy mile win over BEZANOVA and JUDICIAL, three weeks ago. He is still weighted to account for the latter pairing and is of course, even better over this extra furlong. Furthermore, top jockey Anton Marcus could set the four-year-old gelding alight earlier than usual in the straight.

Race 6: ABASHIRI(5)

Jockey:  Karl ZECHNER – Trainer: Michael AZZIE

ABASHIRI is a top class sort with issues but his conditioner has been very patient with the son of Go Deputy and that could pay off in the long-term. The bay gelding went close in a Grade 1 second time out and he had a decent comeback run behind two equally top class sorts in the form of Noah From Goa (3rd in Grade 1 Queen’s Plate) and subsequent winner New Predator, seven weeks ago. He was understandably green that day but will strip much fitter and clearly has huge room for improvement. The nine furlongs should be right up his alley and the Mike Azzie inmate should take a power of beating at the weights.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 4: SPLENDID GARDEN(4)
Jockey: Gavin LERENA – Trainer: Alec LAIRD

A classy field has assembled for this pinnacle stakes event and an exciting finish is expected. There are a few speedy sorts who could harm each other’s chances and that will play into the hands of those that finish their races well. SPLENDID GARDEN is one of them and the Mike Azzie inmate can turn things around with the speedy AURUM POT. He was 2nd best behind the latter over the c & d last time and the pair meet on similar weight terms, but his conqueror enjoyed a soft lead that day and things will be much different now. The official ratings suggest that the top selection has his work cut out for him but he is still progressive and merits healthy respect.
