Magic Tips Best Bets
Race 1: QUERARI VIKING(7)
Jockey: Sherman BROWN – Trainer: Ormond FERRARIS
QUERARI VIKING produced two smart juvenile efforts in the autumn and probably needed his below-par seasonal debut, four weeks ago. That formline hasn’t amounted to much but the Querari colt is certain- ly better than that showing and his good draw is a major plus. He has track experience which is often crucial and will be fitter now. The Ormond Ferraris inmate should go very well in this field.
Race 4: FISH RIVER CANYON(8)
Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE – Trainer: Gary ALEXANDER
FISH RIVER CANYON has had two decent sprints on the standside track and she made the expected improvement when running on well for a close 3rd on her seasonal debut, second time out. The daughter of Mullins Bay has given every indication that she is searching for further and her conditioner has heeded the call. She will find it tricky racing on this tight circuit for the first time but has obvious scope for improvement and she jumps from a fair draw.
Top Bet
Race 7: KANGAROO JACK(1)
Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE – Trainer: Gary ALEXANDER
The ultra-consistent and very classy KANGAROO JACK proved his affinity for tight circuits when he romped to an effortless Grade 2 victory over this distance at Greyville in June. That completed a hat- trick of wins for the Gauteng-based gelding who deserved his 11-week absence. He concedes chunks of weight on his seasonal debut today but has an excellent record on this track and is of course, unbeaten from two c & d showings. The Querari gelding still has plenty more to offer this term and he is the one to beat.
Race 8: HIGH GAME(6)
Jockey: Karl ZECHNER – Trainer: Michael AZZIE
This is a most intriguing low-key handicap and though the ante-post betting will lean towards those runners who represent the Nugget Counter formline, the outcome could prove to be different. The speedy HIGH GAME is plagued with issues but has posted some useful recent efforts, most notably a decent 3rd behind subsequent winner Night Editor in May. The Mike Azzie inmate returns from a 15-week break and this track will suit his running style. He is well drawn and can cause the upset.
VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:
Race 3: CHAMPIONS CUP(9)
Jockey: Mpumelelo MJOKA – Trainer: Tyrone ZACKEY
CHAMPIONS CUP has disappointed in recent efforts but he was docked four pounds after his last run and has importantly finally cracked a good draw. He is better than his track record shows and interesting- ly, his best recent performance came under this 4kgs claiming apprentice. The four-year-old chestnut gelding can bounce back to that form with his low mass.
