Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 3: PERSIAN RUG(10)
Jockey: Delpech A – Trainer: De Kock M F

There are a few likely pacesetters in this Grade 3 contest and the possible decent gallop will ensure a fair result. Many eyes will firmly be focused on the Mike de Kock charge PERSIAN RUG who is way above-average. This daughter of Ideal World showed top potential as a juvenile last campaign and it is well-documented how unlucky she was to be beaten a neck into 3rd in a Grade 1 on Gold Cup day over a mile. She would have needed her seasonal debut sprint on the inside course three weeks ago and will strip a fitter horse today. Her pedigree suggests that she should relish this trip and she could be equal to this huge task at hand. The bay filly has a handy galloping mass of 53.5kgs.

Race 4: SMART MART(11)
Jockey: Delpech A – Trainer: De Kock M F

SMART MART stays well and he could emerge as a top stayer over the current campaign. He had a fair comeback run on his seasonal debut on the sand over a mile last time and he should strip fitter now. The Mambo In Seattle gelding wasn’t far off the best stayers last term and he should continue to blossom with age. He is well handicapped in this listed contest and should go very close with just 53.5kgs on his back.

Race 5: LINEKER(1) – TOP BET
Jockey: Strydom P – Trainer: Snaith J S

LINEKER is a top class three-year old in the making and he will be fitter after no doubt needing his comeback run on his Gauteng debut, seven weeks ago. He briefly threatened to upstage a smart sprinter on that occasion and clearly has plenty more improvement to come. The Australian import had two useful feature runs at the end of last term. The Snaith inmate usually finishes his races well so this longer run-in will suit him perfectly. The Star Witness colt should go close in this field and ‘Striker’ will know him better now.

Race 11: STAR OF LOVE(9)
Jockey: V.Rensburg M – Trainer: Ferreira S M

STAR OF LOVE could be way above-average and she drew off to record an impressive maiden victory over a mile in her third outing. The daughter of Indigo Magic jumped from five furlongs on that occasion and was given a break to strengthen during the winter. She caught the eye with a decent comeback run over nine furlongs at this level recently and still has plenty more to offer. The faster pace of this seven furlong event will play right into her hands and the four-year old filly should go close in this field. She will be fitter now and is unbeaten with Van Rensburg in the saddle.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 6: CHAMPAGNE HAZE(4)
Jockey: Fortune A – Trainer: Alexander G M

CHAMPAGNE HAZE is fast improving into a top quality sort and he aims to follow in the footsteps of his half-brother Pierre Jourdan who won this race in 2009. This son of Kahal has come a long way since shedding his maiden tag and he quickened past a smart line-up to win a handicap over 1450m on the inside track, four weeks ago. The bay colt takes a steep rise in class today but he still has lots of improvement to come and the Gary Alexander inmate should enjoy this longer run.
