Race 2: ANTONINI(2)
Jockey: Nooresh JUGLALL – Trainer: Ormond FERRARIS

ANTONINI hasn’t raced for 18 weeks but would have strengthened nicely during his time off. The son of Antonius Pius was fancied when he made his debut over seven furlongs on this course, that day. He raced handy and caught the eye when he moved up well but tired over the final furlong and finished a well beaten third. However, he was beaten by two quality sorts that day and the runner-up has completed a fine hat-trick since. His trainer will have him fit and ready and he should have lots of improvement to come in this field. The other raced horses don’t have much form to speak of and exactly half of this field are unraced newcomers. The betting market must obviously be monitored.

Race 4: ASH CLOUD(7) – TOP BET
Jockey: Wesley MARWING – Trainer: Weiho MARWING

ASH CLOUD made an eye-catching debut despite being green over the Vaal six furlongs, ten days ago. The daughter of Black Minnaloushe was outpaced in the early stages but then ran on smartly for third behind fellow newcomer Milynne. That run would have brought her on nicely and she is bred to love every bit of this extra distance. She is the half-sister to the talented PE stayer, Drill Sargeant. She will again get a 2.5kgs apprentice claim and should go well, if she handles the turn.

Race 5: BARACAH(3)
Jockey: Randall SIMONS – Trainer: Sean TARRY

BARACAH has never really convinced that he goes beyond a mile and he is much better than his poor last effort. He must clearly be forgiven that performance, especially as he may have needed the outing after returning from a KZN escapade. He has campaigned against some top sorts but is no doubt most comfortable against this class of opposition. He has a decent record over this trip and hasn’t finished too far behind STRAW MARKET when the pair have met. This trip should make all the difference and he merits healthy respect.

Race 7: STAVINSKY(5)

Jockey: Hennie GREYLING – Trainer: Leon ERASMUS

STAVINSKY was dealt a blow at the start by his own stable companion last time but he flew late and was beaten just a length and a half at the wire. He meets similar opposition today but will enjoy every bit of the extra furlong and could make amends. He has won over this c & d.

VALUE BET FOR TODAY:

Race 1: ALL THE ONES(2) (Each Way)
Jockey: Chamu MABAYA – Trainer: Paul MATCHETT

A moderate workrider’s opening contest but ALL THE ONES could represent some very good value as he drops back to a much more suitable trip. The son of Carpocrates is no star but he did show some form early on in his career before losing his way badly. However, he showed marked improvement when he ran on late for fourth in a decent field over this c & d in his penultimate effort. His last run must be totally ignored as he clearly didn’t stay the 2450m trip. He gets the services of a capable workrider and can pull this off.
