Magic Tips Best Bets

Top Bet
Race 2: MIGHT AS WELL(6)
Jockey: Piere STRYDOM – Trainer: Barend BOTES

The speedy and consistent MIGHT AS WELL seems best suited to this tight circuit and she stands out on form in this ordinary juvenile contest. She was 2nd best behind a potentially top sort at the Vaal recently and was only outrun late here over a mile prior to that. She has drawn widest which appears the only obstacle but with ‘Striker’ retaining the ride and some slow starts & first timers drawn on her inside, she should overcome the barrier position. The bay filly is the yard’s only representative on the day and she should take a power of beating.

Race 5: MATCHMAKER(2)
Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE – Trainer: Michael AZZIE

MATCHMAKER
is the narrow first selection in another ordinary and wide open maiden affair. The Mike Azzie inmate seems to have fully recovered from the issue that forced him to be sidelined for 24 weeks after his fair debut effort over this c & d. He has improved with each comeback run after that break and blinkers seemed to do the trick in a workrider’s event, three weeks ago. The well-related Dynasty colt still has lots of room for improvement and holds definite claims despite the widest draw. Top jockey Andrew Fortune takes the ride.

Race 8: TOP SHOT(2)
Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE – Trainer: Gary ALEXANDER

There are some decent types in this competitive nine-furlong handicap and once again we could be treated to an exciting finish. TOP SHOT has an excellent track record and the four-year-old chestnut gelding remains ultra-consistent, having gone close to winning his last two runs. He was narrowly ahead of ENBHARR on the Vaal Classic Track recently and though he is 1kg worse off with the latter, Andrew Fortune’s ride will be a different proposition on this tight circuit. He has no issues with this trip, having won his only c & d effort.

Race 9: TAPAWAY(4)

Jockey: Randall SIMONS – Trainer: Johan JANSE VAN RENSBURG

There are plenty of speedsters in this five-furlong fillies and mares handicap and an exciting finish should be on the cards. TAPAWAY is still improving and she crushed MISS NIGHTINGALE (2kgs better off) by almost four lengths over this c & d at a similar level, six weeks ago. That earned her a six-pound penalty but the daughter of Captain Al is progressive and can certainly follow-up. She jumps from a decent draw and is her stable’s only representative on the day.
VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 6: LET IT RAIN(9)
Jockey: Calllan MURRAY – Trainer: Weiho MARWING

The first of the day’s handicaps and a most intriguing contest is scheduled. There are a few likely pacesetters who will ensure a decent gallop and a true result is expected. The lightly weighted three- year old LET IT RAIN has improved smartly since relocating to the Highveld and being gelded. He led throughout en route to a comfortable maiden victory at the Vaal last time but is equally effective with different tactics. The extremely well-related Dynasty gelding takes a huge rise in class today but he clearly has more scope for improvement and the expensive purchase could be ahead of the handicapper. He is well drawn and his track experience is an obvious plus.
