The three-year-old WISAAM got his career firmly back on track with an easy last win on the inside track, two weeks ago. The speedy Australian import kept on well to beat some hard-knocking older rivals that day and he now has his peak run. The lightly raced Mike de Kock inmate picked up a five-pound penalty for his troubles, but he has plenty of scope for improvement and he takes only a slight rise in class. He has strong claims of following up.
Race 4: RESOLUTE CAPTAIN(14)
Jockey: Weichong MARWING – Trainer: Alec LAIRD
This is an intriguing first leg of the jackpot and the barrier positions could heavily impact the outcome. RESOLUTE CAPTAIN has cracked a good draw and he will prefer being equipped with blinkers after a lacklustre latest run on his first attempt around the turn. His smart debut prior to that shows his real worth and though he has just over five lengths to find with CRIMSON MAGIC on their last meeting, he will be a different proposition today. The son of Captain Al has plenty of scope for improvement and Weichong Marwing takes the ride.
Race 5: FRENCH NAVY(1)
The course specialist FRENCH NAVY is getting back to his best form this season, and he produced a top class last performance under a big mass over the ten furlongs in the Summer Cup. He was running on well at the finish that day and his conditioner has found the perfect race for him to get back to winning ways today. The son of Count Dubois is by some distance best in on official ratings and he will be cherry-ripe on his third run after the layoff. The lack of a strong gallop may make things interesting but the four-year-old gelding should still show his class and notch up the victory.
Race 6: TOBESURETOBESURE(11)
Jockey: Gunter WROGEMANN – Trainer: Heather ADAMSON
This is an interesting low-key handicap with many of the entrants showing some fair recent form. The former Cape inmate TOBESURETOBESURE is definitely worth a second look after her two encouraging runs on the Highveld on both local surfaces. She was well beaten into 3rd on the sand in her comeback run and had a very smart subsequent effort on the grass. She was caught late by a quality type over ten furlongs in that last run and the blinkers have certainly made the difference for the five-year-old mare. She is well handicapped on her peak run and could stake another serious claim from a good draw.
