BARNEYS PRIDE’S last two starts after returning from a 14-week break have been good. He stayed on nicely at the finish over 1200m last time. The son of Greys Inn will enjoy the rise to the mile. He should be cherry-ripe and with Gavin Lerena in the saddle, he should return to winning ways.

LION OF THE DESERT ran on powerfully to win his last start over 1500m on the Vaal Classic course. The son of Twice Over will be at home over the extra 100m on offer. He received a five-pound penalty and against a similar type of field, he can notch up the hat-trick. FSQUADRON’S last three starts have been fair. He takes a slight drop in class this afternoon and Gavin Lerena may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.

KOOL BAIKAL showed good signs of a form return in his last start over 2200m on this course. He was reported to be fatigued that day which makes the effort that much more encouraging. It must be noted that Shangani has come out and won again since. Ryan Munger retains the ride and the combination may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure.
