Race 4: HILILYHILILYHILO(3)

Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE – Trainer: Clinton BINDA

The fast improving four-year-old HILILYHILILYHILO narrowly failed to complete his hat-trick when touched off over this c & d in a strong field, two weeks ago. He was penalised two pounds for the performance but is clearly loving his stay on the Highveld and has lots more to offer. Furthermore, the Clinton Binda inmate handles his races extremely well and he should take a power of beating in this line-up. He is unbeaten with Fortune in the saddle.

Race 5: SAO PAULO(2)
Jockey: Anthony DELPECH – Trainer: Mike DE KOCK

This is an intriguing novice contest where the best-rated filly returns from just over a year’s layoff and she needs to be closely monitored in the betting market. The likely sedate gallop could play into her hands though but she could have her fellow lightly raced four-year-old filly, SAO PAULO to beat. This inmate from the Mike de Kock yard seems to be over her niggling issues as she competed twice without being rested for the first time in her short career, recently. Her quality then showed as the daughter of Trippi eventually drew clear of her maiden rivals to easily win over shorter on this track a fortnight ago. She takes on much stronger today but has her peak effort and more importantly, the mile should really suit her well. She is well drawn and red-hot jockey Delpech has ridden her before. She certainly has more scope for progress.

Race 7: AMERICAN TIGER(3)
Jockey: Sherman BROWN – Trainer: Ormond FERRARIS

The AMERICAN TIGER c & d formline on 24/07 should hold up well in this low-key handicap and the much-improved bay gelding is expected to follow-up, despite being slightly out at the weights with a few rivals. He was also drawn wide on that occasion but mowed his opposition down in the latter stages to keep his 100% c & d record, intact. He was penalised the minimum two pounds for that neck defeat of ARABIAN BAY on that occasion and is now 1kg worse off with the latter who has his peak showing.

Race 8: FLIRTING AROUND(5)

Jockey: Marco VAN RENSBURG – Trainer: Gavin VAN ZYL

The track specialist FLIRTING AROUND landed the gamble when she got the upper hand late to beat a similar field over ten furlongs on this course, early last month. She seems much better than the handicapper’s assessment, particularly on this tight circuit, despite the resultant minimum two-pound penalty. The extra furlong should be no issue for the four-year-old bay filly who has strong claims of following up. The joint top weight A P CHANEL appears held by the top selection on their penultimate meeting but she has also taken a liking for this track and is way better than her last two runs. She is well drawn today and can make improvement at this lower-level.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 2: SAIL FOR JOY(3)
Jockey: Ryan MUNGER – Trainer: Scottt KENNY

There are quite a few form runners in this maiden event which should yield an exciting finish. SAIL FOR JOY has shown smart form in his four starts to date and the switch to this shorter run-in could favour the Argonaut gelding who has a midfield draw. The form of his penultimate effort was boosted when the runner-up Just A Gigolo smashed his rivals subsequently.
