Leicester Best Bets

Neil Morrice brings you his Best Bets for the turf action from Leicester on Sunday, August 11

Race 4 – No 2 LINCOLN PARK
Trainer: Mike Appleby
Jockey: John Egan

In an interesting move on the distance ladder, LINCOLN PARK reverts to a sprint distance after narrowly failing to go from gate to line over a mile at Chester. He’s been a grand servant to connections and might be able to dominate this field, which is made up largely of hold up performers.

Race 5 – No1 SILKSTONE
Trainer: Pam Sly
Jockey: Shane Kelly

SILKSTONE can advertise the ‘horses for courses’ rule on this return to his happy hunting ground. In three starts here he’s won and finished second twice and undoubtedly ran into a well handicapped rival when chasing home Lyndon B last time. The latter boosted the form when finishing an unlucky third in a hot handicap at Goodwood.

Windsor Best Bets

Race 1 No11 CHENG GONG
Trainer: Tom Clover
Jockey: Luke Morris

This is something of a recovery mission for CHENG GONG who after being heavily supported was denied a clear run at Yarmouth. This lightly-raced individual is probably looking for today’s longer trip and in a weak race holds strong claims to open his account.

Race 6 No12 WALLABY
Trainer: Jonathan Portman
Jockey: A Villiers

Getting every allowance possible, WALLABY really catches the eye and can endorse the promise of her latest run at Newmarket. In what looked an above average fillies’ maiden, she flashed home to trouble the judge and looked as if a longer trip would not be out of order. There should be plenty more to come from Wallaby, who can boost her trainer’s good record at this course.

Downpatrick Best Bets

Race 3 – No 4 HERBIEGOESBANANAS
Trainer: Willie Mullins
Jockey: B Hayes

The burning question is why Mullins has bothered to bring HERBIEGOESBANANAS back from a near 850-day absence ? The now nine-year-old appeared to have lost his form and hopes are pinned on the Mullins magic to have him primed for this return in a very winnable heat.

Race 6 – No 4 CANADIAN STEEL
Trainer: Noel Kelly
Jockey: C J Orr

Course and distance winner CANADIAN STEEL is in the form of his life and can make this a fourth win from his last six outings. Having looked good value for his length and a quarter margin of victory over King Of Aran, this strong traveller has plenty going for him with most of his rivals out of form.

Tipperary Best Bet

Race 3 – No 11 SUN SIGN
Trainer: Mrs D Foster
Jockey: K J Leonard

SUN SIGN has abundant ability and can deservedly open her account after good efforts in defeat in each of her four starts this season. Shes getting weight from the entire field and can avenge an unlucky defeat at the Curragh last time when Hiella got first run.
