Catterick Best Bets

Race 6 – No 6 THE GREY ZEBEDEE
Trainer: Tim Easterby – Jockey: Duran Fentiman

At this track that favours front runners, THE GREY ZEBEDEE can open his seasonal account. He’s been getting closer to the winner’s circle with each outing, latterly getting collared only in the final strides of a race at this course. It could be argued that his wide draw might prove a disadvantage, but in point of fact horses with high draws can benefit here should the horses stay in the middle of the track or head for the stands” rail when the ground rides soft, as it will.

Race 7 – No 5 MAURICIO
Trainer: Dr Richard Newland – Jockey: Miss Serena Brotherton

Connections of the in form MAURICIO have shown they mean business by engaging Brotherton for the mount and her vast experience in the amateur ranks can be a key factor in the gelding completing a hat-trick. Although things didn’t completely go his way, Mauricio showed good track craft to get out of trouble and win quite costly in the end at Yarmouth. The race should have brought him on.

Pontefract Best Bets

Race 2 No 4 DANCE KING
Trainer: Tim Easterby – Jockey: Paul Mulrennan
Course winner DANCE KING shaped like a horse getting ready to return to winning ways when a staying on fourth behind Trinity Star in a Class 4 at Thirsk last time. That should have put the cutting edge on him and with his stable in form he can step up to the plate.

Race 6 No6 STORTING
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: Silvestre de Sousa

De Sousa teams up with STORTING for the first time and the strength of the jockey will be put to the test if the colt adopts his annoying habit of careering left when coming under a ride. It’s cost him victory on more than one occasion, and he might have prevailed in an apprentice race at Goodwood but for tanking to the stands rail and giving away more ground than he was beaten by. As Pontefract is a left-handed course, any tendency to go left will at least leave him with a rail to race against.

Southwell Best Bets

Race 3 – No 1 LIL ROCKERFELLER
Trainer: Neil King – Jockey: Bryony Frost

Having acquitted himself well when favourite for a big staying handicap at the Qatar Goodwood Festival, LIL ROCKERFELLER now revers to fences and is the class act in this extended two and a half miler. The 8yo has a good pilot and although conceding plenty of weight to those at the base of the handicap has the game plan to make all.

Race 4 – No 2 SALTO CHISCOTrainer: Harry Whittington – Jockey: Page Fuller

Lady jockeys could be in for a productive afternoon and Fuller is the right person to guide SALTO CHISCO to another success. The veteran has been firmly in the grip of the handicapper but under the capable Fuller survived a bad mistake at the last to share the spoils at Bangor with Malangen.

Tipperary Best Bet

Race 4 – No 11 DOUBLE KODIAC
Trainer: Simon Crisford – Jockey: Hayley Turner

Considering he went so close on his latest outing at Newmarket it’s a surprise that the assessor left DOUBLE KODIAC’s mark unchanged.this lightly raced handicap debutant hails from a stable that is going through a purple patch and he can bring his own offering to that table by defying a 121 day absence.
