Fontwell Best Bets

Race 5: ARCHIMENTO (3)
Trainer: Oliver Sherwood
Jockey: Leighton Aspell

Several of these novices posted promising runs last time but none more so than ARCHIMENTO over this course and distance. The 6yo had every chance to win after being backed into odds-on, but mistakes at each of the last two flights cost him valuable ground and momentum. That was however only his second career start, and improvement is on the cards.

Race 6: CATCH MY DRIFT (2)
Trainer: Tim Vaughan
Jockey: Alan Johns

As a horse that likes to race prominently CATCH MY DRIFT has every chance of getting his own way in front. He hit a flat spot on his latest start at Southwell before staying on again in his own time, but can look lively in this to maintain the good form of his stable.

York Best Bets

Race 1: LEAPERS WOOD (4)
Trainer: Michael Dods
Jockey: Callum Rodriguez

The strong travelling LEAPERS WOOD has proved costly to follow but after a couple of near misses where he did nothing wrong he’s worth one more chance. Backed as lif defeat was out of the question at Carlisle, he had no answer to Deb’s Delight up the final hill but the winner looks decent.

Race 3: DANZENO (2)
Trainer: Mike Appleby
Jockey: Alistair Rawlinson

Taken out owing to unsuitable going at Haydock on Friday, DANZENO can land this featured Garrowby Stakes. This tough-as-teak sprinter rarely fails to trouble the judge and was again on the premises when fourth to Judicial in the Beverley Bullet. Course specialist Dakota Gold has excelled in handicaps and if taking the move up to Listed class in his stride will be a big danger.

Race 7: CAPTON (10)
Trainer: Mick Easterby
Jockey: M Ghiani

With one of the apprentice finds of the year on his back CAPTON can gain an overdue first success for new connections. The gigantic gelding proved a prolific scorer for Henry Candy before going under the hammer and relocating North, and until finishing second to Regal Director at Redcar last month had been out of sorts. That front running effort shows the 6yo is ready to deliver from his tumbling mark.
