UK Racing Best Bets – Wednesday 23 October 2019

Jockeys ride horses

Neil Morrice brings us all of his best bets and tips from UK Racing at Newmarket, Wolverhampton, Kempton Park and Worcester.

Newmarket Best Bets

Race 4: ARTHURIAN LEGEND (1)
Trainer: Brian Meehan
Jockey: Martin Dwyer

With good form to his name over the Rowley Mile, ARTHURIAN LEGEND represents good Win and Place value in this longer mile and a half maiden. He raised his game on that second career start to chase home White Moonlight, doing his best work at the finish. He’s pleased his trainer in subsequent work.

Race 5: WALKONBY (6)
Trainer: Mick Channon
Jockey: David Egan

Although she is taking on some in form colts, WALKONBY should not be underestimated and can make this her fourth win of the season. She’s a strongly made individual that can take a keen grip, but the stiff finish here will play to her strengths. She put in her only disappointing run on her latest start at Nottingham but is better than that.

Race 7: SLY MINX (12)
Trainer: Mick Channon
Jockey: Silvestre de Sousa

The abandonment due to unsafe ground of Brighton last week was a kick in the teeth for connections of SLY MINX who had been solidly supported in what looked a weak maiden. She is now pitched against the top stables but is well regarded, and poised to step up on her promising debut run at this track.

Wolverhampton Best Bets

Race 2: ORCHIDIA (11)
Trainer: Roger Charlton
Jockey: Adrian McNamara

It begs a question why ORCHIDIA hasn’t been seen since July but with her previous experience of the Dunstall Park surface she is worth supporting to open her account. Her effort to run Incredulous to half a length is easily the best form on offer and she has a good draw and a good jockey on her back.

Kempton Park Best Bets

Race 4: SERIOUS JOCKIN (4)

Trainer: Mick Channon
Jockey: George Bass

SERIOUS JOCKIN took a backwards step at Chelmsford when weakening, but now returned to a sprint distance can prove far more competitive. With the added benefit of his apprentice jockey’s 7lb claim he’s getting stacks of weight from his rivals, and if reproducing his previous run on Polytrack can have a say at a working man’s price.

Worcester Best Bets

Race 1: ANNIE BONNY (2)
Trainer: Evan Williams
Jockey: Adam Wedge
A big hike up the distance ladder can work the oracle for ANNIE BONNY who may well have needed her first run of the season at Fontwell earlier in the month and can improve. The market suggested she would benefit from that experience and connections believe she will strip a lot fitter today.
