Winning Form Best Bets
Race 1: STAVINSKY(1)
Race 4: TRIP TEASE(5)
Race 5: KILLUA CASTLE(3)
Race 9: ROCK THE COUNTRY(8)
Race 2: NEGEV(1) – TOP BET
Jockey: Piere STRYDOM – Trainer: Louis GOOSEN
The imposing daughter of Stronghold, NEGEV has taken her time but is showing signs of maturity. She had shown a return to form in the latter stages of last season and deserved her 2nd career win on her seasonal debut, four weeks ago. She drew off to record an easy win on the turf over this trip on that occasion and is still improving. Her trainer has given her a huge task, with a big mass, on the sand today, but she is a cut above the rest of this field and could prove that. She will be aided by a good draw and Strydom knows her really well.
Race 4: GOLD PROSPECTOR(3)
Jockey: Randall SIMONS – Trainer: Paul MATCHETT
There should again be a ‘lightning quick’ pace in this event and GOLD PROSPECTOR has an excellent turn of foot to exploit that. The son of Horse Chestnut has been superb in his two c & d victories, the latest of which was with a big mass against older rivals on his handicap debut on the first day of the new season. He rises in class today but is crucially back against his own age group and merits healthy respect.
Race 5: KILLUA CASTLE(3)
Jockey: Robbie FRADD – Trainer: Geoff WOODRUFF
KILLUA CASTLE still hasn’t overcome his starting stalls theatrics but he showed exactly what he is capable of last time. The imported son of Churchill Downs blew many of today’s rivals away in that last effort over this c & d. He was given the maximum eight pound penalty for that win but is still very well in at the weights and is again the one to beat. The obvious worry is how much start he will concede today.
Race 6: FORMATION(1)
FORMATION has ultra-consistent form but is struggling to get that eighth career win. She has fooled many of her jockeys, in that she travels beautifully in her races, but has only a short burst of speed. She needs to be given the ‘perfect ride’ and be held up for as long as possible. Gavin Lerena knows the daughter of Sarge well and despite her big mass, she could still have too much class for today’s rivals.
VALUE BET FOR TODAY:
Race 3: GLENSHEE(5) (Each Way)
Jockey: Anthony DELPECH – Trainer: Mike DE KOCK
A very competitive event with plenty of speedsters here. GLENSHEE makes her debut on the sand which is often tricky, but there was plenty to admire about the manner in which the daughter of Tiger Ridge quickened to blow her field away over six furlongs on the tough Scottsville straight, last time out. That was only her maiden victory but she appears very progressive and her trainer obviously feels that she can match strides with today’s class of opposition. This surface and the likely blistering pace could suit her and she will be picking them off over the final furlong.
