Winning Form Best Bets
Race 1: LESLEY STRONG(1)
Race 2: FORMATION(3)
Race 4: SOFT SAND(3)
Race 5: FRENCH APPROVAL(16)
Race 2: FORMATION(3)
Jockey: Gavin LERENA – Trainer: St John GRAY
Gavin Lerena has mastered the art of riding FORMATION and the pair have won 3 of their last 4 starts together. The Sarge mare has always displayed a short but very effective burst of speed and her jockey held her up for as long as possible over the mile last time and it paid dividends as she held on for the victory. She is again extremely well in at the weights and has a cracking record over this c & d. She is the one to beat.
Race 3: JACKODORE(1) – TOP BET
Jockey: Piere STRYDOM – Trainer: Sean TARRY
JACKODORE has too much class for this field but that is purely looking at her turf form. She takes a huge drop in class but it is pleasing to note that she placed in her only start on the sand. The daughter of Toreador has plenty going for her today and despite switching to the sand, she should take a power of beating with Strydom aboard.
Race 6: STORMY GOLD(8)
Jockey: Francois HERHOLDT – Trainer: Robbie SAGE
STORMY GOLD has lots of ability but has thus far been plagued with issues. However, he has had two decent comeback runs after a year’s layoff and should be cherry-ripe here. His sire’s progeny general- ly do well on this surface and he should be very competitive in this field. Owing to his problems, this could be the ideal surface for the son of Spectrum.
Race 9: MIGHTY MO(1)
Jockey: Ian STURGEON – Trainer: St John GRAY
MIGHTY MO has been a mystery thus far. She enjoys racing on the sand but flops badly when she attempts anything more than six furlongs. She was caught late over this c & d in her penultimate outing but faded badly last time out. She isn’t one to trust but this is a moderate field and she must be respected. She has a midfield draw.
VALUE BET FOR TODAY:
Race 7: CHIPNPUTT(2) (Each Way)
Jockey: Francois NAUDE – Trainer: Chris ERASMUS
CHIPNPUTT raced wide throughout his last start over nine furlongs on this course and that told in the end as the six-year old faded out of contention late. He is much better than that and it showed when he finished strongly for 2nd, beaten just 1.25 lengths behind subsequent 14.75 length victor Levanto over a mile on this course in his penultimate outing. He meets a similar field today but more importa- ntly, he should enjoy this shorter trip from a slightly better draw. He will be very competitive in this field.
