Winning Form Best Bets
Race 1: WENDY MAE(3)
Race 2: ROYAL TASKA(1)
Race 3: WISHFUL HEART(14)
Race 6: PLANET QUEEN(9)
Race 1: WENDY MAE(3)
Jockey: Piere STRYDOM – Jockey: Gavin VAN ZYL
The KZN raider WENDY MAE makes her Gauteng debut on the sand today and brings some very good form into this competitive event. She was however given a galloping lesson by the highly rated Kitco over the Clairwood 1000m last time but may have just needed the outing. She was caught late by another useful sort in her penultimate outing and should strip much fitter today. She has the necessary gate speed and should be go very well, if she takes to this surface. The engaging of Strydom suggests that her yard fancies her chances.
Race 2: ROYAL TASKA(1) – TOP BET
Jockey: Piere STRYDOM – Jockey: Kumaran NAIDOO
ROYAL TASKA built on her fair sand debut when she produced a strong finish and was only beaten a neck behind the cleverly ridden Cerise Silk over 1450m on this course, two weeks ago. She finished well clear of the third placed runner, CALYPSO GIRL and may have still just needed the outing. She will be cherry-ripe today and should have little trouble with the extra 150m. She gets Strydom in the irons and will take a power of beating. The latter has improved in recent starts and though she may not be able to reverse the form, she could still complete the exacta.
Race 4: PIGEON POWER(8)
Jockey: Robbie FRADD – Jockey: Kumaran NAIDOO
PIGEON POWER has taken nicely to this surface, despite being drawn badly in both her starts. She moved up menacingly before tiring late into fourth over a mile last time and should love this slight drop in trip. She represents an in-form yard and could take some beating from a handy draw.
Race 5: MELLI MOU(4)
MELLI MOU has shown plenty of promise and is versatile on both surfaces. However, her trainer has restricted her to the sand after she returned from a lengthy break and the daughter of Mellifont has kept her form really well. She stayed on well for third over this c & d last time and should again be very competitive here.
VALUE BET FOR TODAY:
Race 7: WHERE’S MY CHOP(6) (Each Way)
Jockey: Fanie CHAMBERS – Trainer: St John GRAY
WHERE’S MY CHOP is ultra-consistent and enjoys racing on this surface. He was given an easy comeback run when third over 1450m on this course, ten days ago and will be much fitter this time around. He takes on much stronger today but is even better over this slightly shorter trip and Chambers’ riding style should suit him well.
