Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 2: MEET ME AT MANOS(10)
Jockey: S’manga KHUMALO – Trainer: Sean TARRY

MEET ME AT MANOS showed huge improvement when she stayed on for 3rd in a decent field behind a subsequent winner over five furlongs on this track, four weeks ago. She tries the turn from a good draw today and she should make further progress. The Sean Tarry inmate is expected to enjoy the extra furlong and she should again be competitive.

TOP BET
Race 3: MASTER’S SPIRIT(4)
Jockey: Francois HERHOLDT – Trainer: Mike DE KOCK

MASTER’S SPIRIT showed good earlier potential but clearly has issues so the Mike de Kock inmate may enjoy switching to this surface. The really expensive son of Jet Master had two creditable runs after returning from the lengthy layoff and he only tired late in strong company on the grass, two weeks ago. He drops heavily in class on his peak run today and the fitting of blinkers will sharpen him up. He jumps from a good draw and could be a major factor.

Race 4: RIVER EMPRESS(1)
Jockey: Chad LITTLE – Trainer: Geoff WOODRUFF

RIVER EMPRESS continues to improve since returning from the long break and she has proven her versatility on both surfaces. She crushed her maiden rivals, including a subsequent winner over this c & d in her penultimate outing and then followed up with a solid handicap debut run on the grass, three weeks ago. She challenged strongly when beaten a neck at the line that day and despite a hefty five pound penalty, the daughter of Dynasty has plenty more to offer and she could defy the odds. Her good draw is a major plus on this surface and she is the only entrant from the Woodruff yard on the card.

Race 7: UNCLE TOMMY(1)

Jockey: Ian STURGEON – Trainer: Weiho MARWING

UNCLE TOMMY continues to be brilliant on this surface and he finished well for 2nd in the Supreme Cup, despite a big mass last time out. He has been mostly stationed in KZN so hasn’t tasted success on the sand for quite some time but the Weiho Marwing inmate is extremely well treated by the official ratings today and gets an ideal opportunity to get that deserved fifth career win on this track.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 8: STARRY SOIREE(11) (Each Way)
Jockey: Karl ZECHNER – Trainer: Grant MAROUN

This is a tricky fillies and mares handicap and an upset could be on the cards. This sand surface has recently heavily favoured the frontrunners or those who race up with the speed. The likely pacesetter STARRY SOIREE has had shocking form in her four runs since shedding her maiden certificate over this trip but she continues to plummet in the ratings and now makes her track debut. The four-year old filly has her peak run and the way the track is running at present, could certainly suit her racing style. Interestingly, she is the sole entrant from her yard on this card.
