Race 2: FORMATION(4)
Jockey: Gavin LERENA – Trainer: St John GRAY

This could be the start of the St John Gray pick 3 and the yard is represented by top sand performer, FORMATION. The six-year old mare has a remarkable record on this surface and she comes into this event in great form. She is well treated by the weights and goes extremely well for Gavin Lerena. She showed her well-being with a decent display on the turf in a feature last time and should go very close here.

Jockey: Keagan DE MELO – Trainer: St John GRAY

UNDERCOVER CAT is lightly raced and she gets the nod to give the St John Gray yard a quick double. The daughter of Black Minnaloushe handles her racing extremely well and she finished strongly for a close third, beaten one length at the hands of subsequent winner TOMORROW’S MISS over a mile on this course, four weeks ago. She raced a mere four days later but was 2nd best behind a highly rated sort after setting the pace on the grass at Turffontein. The four-year old filly meets the latter on 3.5kgs better terms for that one length defeat and she has huge claims of reversing the form. She has enough gate speed so this slight drop in trip won’t pose a concern.

Race 4: MIGHTY MO(1)
Jockey: Keagan DE MELO – Trainer: St John GRAY

MIGHTY MO is very effective on this surface but she had two poor comeback runs after a ten week break. However, the blinkers certainly did the trick as the daughter of Jam Alley recaptured her best form when she was only caught late over six furlongs on this course, two weeks ago. The headgear remains on today and she should have no issues with this extra 250m. She jumps from a midfield draw and is the one to beat.

Jockey: S’manga KHUMALO – Trainer: Sean TARRY

DUAL ALLIANCE is still competitive even at the age of eight and he relished the fast pace in his last start. The gelding showed a welcome return to form as he ran on strongly in the closing stages to win comfortably over 1450m on this course. The win earned him a hefty five pound penalty but he is even better over the mile and he meets a similar field. He is handily drawn and has strong claims of following up.

Race 8: CHIPNPUTT(2) (Each Way)
Jockey: Francois NAUDE – Trainer: Chris ERASMUS

CHIPNPUTT came to life when he tried the sand three weeks ago. The son of Right Approach was drawn poorly over the mile on this course that day but he was gaining eye-catchingly at the finish and was beaten just over one length into second by Levanto. He was rightly handed a three pound penalty but he could still have a bright future on this surface. He has a good record over this trip and he should be extremely competitive in a similar field today.
