Winning Form Best Bets

Race 2: YOURS AND MINE(8)
Race 5: BREATHLESS(14)
Race 6: WENSLEYDALE(8)
Race 8: SALUTE THE SUN(12)

Magic Tips Best Bets
Race 1: LADY STARLETT(8)
Jockey: Gunter WROGEMANN – Trainer: Coenie DE BEER

LADY STARLETT had two useful sprints to date and there was decent improvement from the daughter of Overlord when she was equipped with blinkers, second time out. She ran on nicely for a close 3rd over the minimum trip that day and she has obvious improvement still to come. The full-sister to seven-time winner Talktothestars will again wear the headgear and she should go close in an ordinary field.

TOP BET

Race 2: TALBEC(14)
Jockey: Randall SIMONS – Trainer: Mike DE KOCK

A relatively large field of maidens contests this ten furlong event and the betting market and the outcome should be dominated by TALBEC and SCARE TACTICS. The pair met over this trip at Turffontein last time, with the former finishing 3rd in a strong event, beaten just under two lengths at the line. He had to overcome the worst draw and set the pace before staying on gamely in the closing stages. The Mike de Kock charge has plenty more to offer and his good draw is a major asset today. He is the stable’s only entrant on the card and should go very close with Randall Simons in the saddle.

Race 5: WENDISH(6)
Jockey: Ian STURGEON – Trainer: Jurgen VAN HEERDEN

This is a competitive low-key handicap and with many of the top jockeys partnering the principle contenders, a really exciting finish is expected. WENDISH is her stable’s only entrant on this card and she will strip fitter after no doubt needing her comeback run, two weeks ago. She is a lightly raced five-year who won her maiden over this c & d, three runs back. The daughter of Silvano followed that effort up with a cracking handicap debut run over the same c & d, eight weeks later. The 3rd placed finisher has won twice since which boosts the form and the bay mare should be competitive with Ian Sturgeon in the saddle.

Race 9: LADY ON FIRE(14)
Jockey: Piere STRYDOM – Trainer: Grant MAROUN

There are numerous speedy sorts in this low-key fillies and mares handicap and there is every chance that they could harm each other’s chances. The runners that finish well could benefit the most and the Grant Maroun charge LADY ON FIRE is a definite betting proposition. She has come well with two smart recent performances over this minimum distance and she drops in class. She ran on well for 3rd behind two smart types last time out and has strong claims despite a three pound penalty.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 6: WENSLEYDALE(8)
Jockey: Hennie GREYLING – Trainer: Leon ERAMUS

This is another competitive low-key affair that could yielding an exciting finish. WENSLEYDALE has been restricted to the sand recently where she has produced some good form but the five-year old mare is equally effective on the grass, albeit she races off an inferior rating. She is well handicapped in this contest and has a c & d victory to her credit.
