Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 2: HONEYBUSH TEA(1)

Jockey: Weichong MARWING – Trainer: Stanely FERREIRA

HONEYBUSH TEA has shown good form on the grass and she ran on strongly for 2nd over this c & d, five weeks ago. She finished exactly two lengths in front of the 3rd placed runner IMPERIAL TOPAZ and can go one better with Weichong Marwing in the saddle. The latter was making her debut when she tired late into 3rd after showing very good speed. She attracted tons of betting support that day but was reportedly not striding out. She may have recovered during the five week absence and will certainly benefit from the experience. The daughter of Silvano could stake a serious claim.

Top Bet

Race 3: ATSO COOL(9)

Jockey: S’manga Khumalo – Trainer: Brian WILD

MINNESOTA has shown smart improvement since being equipped with blinkers in his last two starts. He is a long-time maiden but will again wear the headgear and must be respected with Strydom retaining the ride. That said, the lightly raced ATSO COOL could be the right one over this minimum trip. The Brian Wiid inmate is also a speedy type and he tired late over this c & d in stronger company in his penultimate outing. He may have found six furlongs too far for him last time and his conditioner has wasted little time in dropping him in distance.

Race 7: RIVER RUN(14)

Jockey: S’managa Khumalo – Trainer: George SCOTT

This is a tricky low-key fillies and mares handicap and obvious caution is advised. The four-year old filly RIVER RUN often gets going too late but boasts solid credentials in recent outings, albeit on the sand. She is effective on the grass, having shed her maiden tag over this trip at Turffontein in just her fifth career outing. The obvious concern is that she may arrive too late on the scene once again but her conditioner has possibly negated that issue by engaging S’manga Khumalo on the filly. The former champion jockey is renowned for getting them going early and keeping his mounts in front at the wire. The George Scott inmate is the stable’s only runner on the day and she could achieve that deserved second career victory.

Race 8: BRIGHT BRONTE(4)

Jockey: S’manga Khumalo – Trainer: Joe SOMA

BRIGHT BRONTE has teamed up well with Khumalo recently and the pair finished close-up in 2nd in their last two c & d starts. The daughter of Antonius Pius challenged KINGS V strongly before being beaten a neck into 2nd, five weeks ago. She is 0.5kg to the good but Khumalo is getting to know her better each time and she gets the nod to exact revenge. The latter has always had an affinity for this track and she took a strong ride to win her last start. She was only penalized the minimum two pounds so has definite claims once again.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 4: DREAM LEADER(2)
Jockey: Sherman BROWN – Trainer: Leon ERASMUS

DREAM LEADER has been thereabouts in stronger company recently and he drops heavily in class here. He ran on nicely to finish just out of the money in a strong field last time and should go close in this line-up. The Kahal gelding is c & d suited
