Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 3: VARS PRIDE(1)
Jockey: Gunter WROGEMANN – Trainer: Scott KENNY

VARS PRIDE is gradually coming back to his best form that he showed prior to the 14-week break and he improved for 4th in a competitive line-up, two weeks ago. He was just a neck in front of the 5th placed finisher CENTERFIELD on that occasion but seems to have more progress in him and he should be a major contender in this ordinary field.

Race 4: RESOLUTE CAPTAIN(1)
Jockey: Callan MURRAY – Trainer: Alec LAIRD

This is an intriguing contest with many really moderate maidens and real caution is advised, particularly if the likely short-priced favourite RESOLUTE CAPTAIN isn’t completely over the infection to his left hind that forced his conditioner to withdraw the son of Captain Al on 14/04. He clearly has the best credentials though and was caught late in his comeback run over seven furlongs, five weeks ago. He will certainly strip fitter and should easily handle the mile. He has track experience having produced a good debut over seven furlongs and has room for progress.

Top Bet
Race 5: CRIMSON MAGIC(2)
Jockey: Ian STURGEON – Trainer: Grant MAROUN

CRIMSON MAGIC has done relatively well since finally shedding his maiden tag. He produced a strong finish for 2nd behind KING GERARD over this distance at Turffontein last time and is now 1kg better off with his conqueror for that just over one length defeat. Furthermore, his only career win came over this c & d. He can exact revenge on the latter.

Race 8: ALDIARA(9)

Jockey: Callan MURRAY – Trainer: Stanley FERREIRA

ALDIARA has been most successful over this c & d and she didn’t disgrace herself in strong company, two weeks ago. She meets another competitive field but is much better treated on these handicap terms and the three-year-old daughter of Captain Al should be involved in the finish.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 6: SUPER CLUB(14)
Jockey: Chase MAUJEAN – Trainer: Wallace TOLMAY

This is another intriguing low-key handicap and an upset looks very likely. At first glance, SUPER CLUB does appear held safe by the ultra-consistent and form choice GOLDEN MAN on their last meeting behind Profit Ratio. However, that was a Turffontein and the former will be an entirely different proposition on his home ground. He could be a huge threat if reproducing his last c & d showing behind the decent Rikitikitana at novice level. The four-year-old gelding achieved his only career success over this c & d and he can turn things around.
