Winning Form Best Bets
Race 1: CAPTAIN’S DIVA(9)
Race 2: FELAN(2)
Race 5: NONDWENI’S FILLY(9)
Race 7: CAGIVA(1)
Race 2: CRYSTAL’S REVENGE(3)
Jockey: Piere STRYDOM – Trainer: Sean TARRY
CRYSTAL’S REVENGE bounced back to her best form, albeit she was clearly second best behind runaway winner Slinky Jalinky over the Turffontein 1160m, two weeks ago. The well-related daughter of Dynasty was returning from a 16 week break that day so should strip much fitter today and has lots of scope for improvement.
Race 3: ROYAL FLYING CORPS(2)
Jockey: Marthinus MIENIE – Trainer: Stanley FERREIRA
The Stanley Ferreira stable holds a strong hand in this event and riding engagements suggest that ROYAL FLYING CORPS is the stable elect. Marthinus Mienie’s mount was making his Highveld debut two weeks ago and he made huge improvement when running on well for second, beaten a length and a half by The Pieman over this trip at Turffontein. The former Cape inmate may have just needed that outing after returning from a 16 week break and will strip much fitter today. Interestingly, he did find some outside betting support on that occasion so is obviously showing some fair work back home. That run would have brought him on nicely and he has definite claims of going one better.
Race 4: WELLESLEY(9)
Jockey: Sherman BROWN – Trainer: Leon ERASMUS
This is a very moderate contest but WELLESLEY is a definite improver and he takes a big drop in class. He was clearly outclassed from a wide draw in a feature last time but produced a cracking penultimate effort over seven furlongs on this course, despite being slow into stride. The son of Spanish Harlem should be cherry-ripe on his third run after the rest and this trip is well within his reach.
Race 8: LA CHOUETTE(10) – TOP BET
The highly regarded LA CHOUETTE makes her second racecourse appearance and her conditioner has wasted little time in rising her sharply in class. Of course, the daughter of Western Winter found shrewd market support on her tricky debut over seven furlongs from a shocking draw at Turffontein, five weeks ago. Still, she handled things like a true professional as she overcame a slightly slow start, go to the head of affairs and fought off an early challenge from the odds-on favourite to win very impressively. That run would have brought her on considerably and she has huge scope for improvement. The well related three-year old should easily handle today’s rise in class and will take some beating. She could be destined for bigger things.
VALUE BET FOR TODAY:
Race 7: GONE BABY GONE(8) (Each Way)
Jockey: Keagan LATHAM – Trainer: Mike DE KOCK
GONE BABY GONE has ability but he was slightly disappointing in his last start on his handicap debut. However, the ten furlongs may have just found him out and he did shoulder a big mass against some hard knocking older rivals. Today’s drop in trip will be ideal for the son of Greys Inn and despite taking on two smart sorts, he should be extremely competitive here.
