Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 3: JUST AN AFFAIR(1)

Jockey: Marco VAN RENSBURG – Trainer: Lucky HOUDALAKIS

JUST AN AFFAIR has come good in his last two c & d efforts and gets the nod in this ordinary line-up. The battling maiden SINGASWEWIN has also turned his fortunes around in the winter and the form of his penultimate effort at handicap level has worked out well with the 6th placed entrant Minnesota winning a decent contest subsequently.

TOP BET
Race 4: GOLDEN MAN(3)

Jockey: Ryan MUNGER – Trainer: Grant MAROUN

GOLDEN MAN produced the performance of his life when he finished powerfully for a close 3rd in a strong field that featured subsequent winner Doosra over 1160m at Turffontein five weeks ago. He was withdrawn after being kicked en route to the start ten days ago but his conditioner is obviously pleased with his progress since. Of course the Lateral gelding escaped without punishment for that last effort and is extremely well-handicapped in this line-up. Furthermore, he will love the likely blistering pace and should take a power of beating.

Race 5: LAST GIRL STANDI(9)

Jockey: S’manga KHUMALO – Trainer: St John GRAY

The filly LAST GIRL STANDING is in very good form having finished runner-up in her last two starts, the penultimate of which was over this c & d behind SNOW IN SEATTLE whom she meets on 3.5kgs better terms. She should have finished even closer to her conqueror but for major interference in the closing stages of that apprentice handicap and can exact revenge with top jockey Khumalo up today.

Race 8: SESS(14)

Jockey: Anthony DELPECH – Trainer: Michael AZZIE

The imported colt SESS is progressive and he quickly bounced back to form with a fighting display after adopting frontrunning tactics over this c & d five weeks ago. He finished a neck in front of easy subsequent winner Wheel Of Time that day and has the necessary gate speed to overcome his wide barrier. The son of Pluck is no stranger to facing open company as he finished runner-up on debut, also against older rivals.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 7: ROSE WATER(6)
Jockey: Weichong MARWING – Trainer: Roy MAGNER

The lack of a decent gallop could play into the hands of the ultra-consistent ROSE WATER who tries this marathon distance for the first time in her career. The daughter of Silvano often gets going too late but this longer run-in, coupled with the twelve furlongs should be ideal for her and she can upstage the much fancied DALLEY despite being slightly out at the weights with the best weighted latter. The Roy Magner inmate finished just under three lengths adrift of the latter over nine furlongs on 18/03 and is now 5.5kgs to the good.
