Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 1: OCULUS(5)
Jockey: Strydom P – Trainer: Houdalakis M N

OCULUS attracted huge betting support when making a classy debut over this trip on the sand, ten weeks ago. The well-related four-year old was slow into stride but produced a strong finish and only failed by a neck to reel in the winner. He is obviously rated by his yard and should make natural improvement in this field. His conditioner has engaged ‘Striker’ this time around and the Parade Leader gelding should go close.

Race 5: ANGEL’S POWER(1)
Jockey: Strydom P – Trainer: Wiid B O

This is an interesting three-year old handicap and all eyes will firmly be on the unbeaten top weight, ANGEL’S POWER. The bay colt produced an exciting winning debut over the minimum trip on the Highveld and he confirmed that promise with an equally smart victory on Greyville’s polytrack at handicap level second time out. The Miesque’s Approval colt didn’t take on much but he conceded chunks of weight and the manner of victory was impressive. His pedigree suggests that he will relish this rise in distance and the Brian Wiid inmate still has lots more to offer this season. He would have recovered from the journey to KZN and is a bright prospect.

Race 6: INTERGALACTIC(6) – TOP BET
Jockey: Khumalo S – Trainer: Tarry S G

INTERGALACTIC is a smart chestnut filly who showed lots of promise on Greyville’s polytrack in three career efforts to date. She thrashed a subsequent winner en route to her maiden victory over a mile second time out and wasn’t given the smartest of rides, next time out. The daughter of Kahal was sat on too long that day and was badly cramped as a result but she still recovered to make eye-catching late progress over seven furlongs at novice level. The obvious concerns are that she has travelled to the Highveld, races on the grass for the first time on an unknown track but she is way above-average and could be worth following during the season. The Sean Tarry inmate does appear kindly handicapped at this early stage and she could take some beating, despite the obstacles.

Race 10: IRISH GRACE(7)
Jockey: Penny J – Trainer: Stenger D N

The course specialist IRISH GRACE got her career back on track with a smart seven furlong win in the middle of July. She picked up a four pound penalty for her troubles but meets a similar field and is equally effective over this extra furlong. The daughter of Toreador is the solitary entrant from her yard on today’s card and she has strong claims of following up. ‘Striker’ has struck up a good partne- rship with PARTY MAGIC and the pair drew clear to record an easy victory over this distance, two weeks ago. She was penalized five pounds for her exertions but just like her conditioner’s runners, she is in good nick and should continue to be competitive at this level. The slight concern is her moderate track record.

VALUE BET FOR TODAY:

Race 8: SUPANOVA(11)
Jockey: Brown S – Trainer: Erasmus L J

SUPANOVA is lightly raced and has shown smart ability in three runs to date. The well-related Mogok gelding is making up for lost time and he has improved since getting the unkindest cut of all. He fought back hard to win his maiden when trying the sand last time and now has his third run after the layoff. The four-year old has plenty of room for improvement and he could be ahead of the handicapper at this stage. He will relish the likely blistering pace and has a definite say on his handicap debut.
