Race 5.

BILLABONG ISLE is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys, but she missed out on her hat-trick after two victories over 1100M when finishing eleventh last time out over six furlongs, 4.7L behind the winner and was immediately rested for 17 weeks. She jumped awkwardly in that last outing, before recovering quicky to take the lead, but did not quite go on with her effort. She returns here after having finished third in her only barrier trial and jumps from a wideish draw eight, but she will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways today.

BEAUCHAMP followed up his penultimate run victory over 1100M with a third place finish next time out over six furlongs, two and a half lengths back from the winner. He tried to go from jump to wire that day and was only run out of it late. From a kinder gate two, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

SHORES OF AVALON is a 5yr old mare who had her consistency rewarded with a one length win last time out over six furlongs. She had finished second in her three runs prior to that and is likely to turn in another honest performance today. She has her first run since a longer 26 week spell and has not had the benefit of a barrier trial, so her fitness will have to be taken on trust.  She does face a wide draw ten, but on the plus side, she will have 2kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice.

Race 6.

FREEDOM SQUARE won his penultimate start over six furlongs and then didn’t act in the very heavy going when disappointing to finish eighth last time out over 1550M, twenty seven lengths adrift of the winner, but that was also at a stronger center and that effort is best ignored. He is drawn the widest of them all in gate twelve, but he like to race up with the pace, so should use his early gate speed to move across without consuming too much energy. With some luck in running, he could provide jockey Ashley Morgan with the first two legs of the day’s Jackpot.

CASINO SEVENTEEN on the other hand has cracked pole position. He had to be eased off the heels of other runners at the 1300M mark and then came the widest of them all into the home straight before ending up in sixth place last time out over a mile, just under two and a half lengths behind the winner. He stayed on well that day and should be viewed as a big runner here.

ATHENA’S LAD made good late progress to finish seventh in his latest outing over a mile, 3.8L off the victor when returning from an 18 week absence. He is drawn one outside the latter and should be included in all bets.

Race 7.

The day’s value bet, JUSTFOUR has consistent formlines to her name and jumped awkwardly and came four wide into the home stretch before finishing third last time out over seven furlongs, 1.8L back from the winner. She found a powerful finish from last place into the home straight and is likely to turn in another honest performance today from her useful gate three.

STARLINK is drawn one inside the top choice and also delivered a strong finish, only to be denied victory in the shadow of the post when a head second last time out over six furlongs. She will get 2kgs removed from her allocated weight courtesy of her claiming apprentice to aid her cause.

GOLD LUNAR was friendless in the betting markets when finishing strongly to claim third spot last time out over five furlongs, 0.7L behind the winner. She was returning from a 15 week rest that day and would have come on further with that run under her belt. Notwithstanding a wide draw ten, she should be right up there in the mix.

Race 8.

INDICATIVE put four lengths between himself and the opposition when winning his last start over seven furlongs. He went from gun to tape than day and was eased down approaching the finishing post, so that margin could have been far greater. He gets a cozy draw five and will be having his peak run after returning from a 16 week break and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

LIFE WELL LIVED goes for his hat-trick after wins over 1300M and the latest over a mile by four and a half lengths. He turned second last into the home straight that day, but kicked clear of the field at the 200M pole to record his second career victory and the form of that race has been franked. He will have to negotiate draw eleven, but given his style of racing, he is likely to be dropped out of it in the early stages and then start to pick off the front runners over the closing stages of the race.

NO DEBT had posted a second and two third place finishes before being victorious last time out over five furlongs by 4.2L. He will have to overcome a wide draw nine, but he gets cheek pieces fitted for the first time and if these have the desired effect, he should be involved in the finish here.
