Race 5

MISSILE SEEKER put five lengths between himself and the opposition to win his last start over 1500M, this despite jumping awkwardly. He struck the front at the 2200M mark that day to win going away and gets a handy draw four here. The gelding will be looking to chalk up his fourth career victory today.

FIDDLERS GREEN has cracked pole position and is seldom too far off the action, finishing fourth last time out over 1500M, just under two and a half lengths back from the winner, but he was slow away that day and was bumped shortly after the start, but the form of that race has been franked. He gets a set of blinkers re-fitted for the day’s run and if this move has the desired effect, he should be a big runner here. The gelding will also have 2kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.

UNITED KINGDOM had solid form prior to finishing a tad disappointing sixth last time out over 2000M, four lengths behind the winner. He returns from a 14 week rest, but has had the benefit of two barrier trials to showcase his well-being. The gelding jumps from gate five and the engaging of champion jockey James McDonald catches the eye.

Race 6

WEEPING WOMAN is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys, but she has consistent formlines to her name, finishing fourth last time out over 1000M, 1.7L behind the winner. She was returning from a 20 week break that day and raced three wide without cover throughout and then came six wide into the home straight, so she had her excuses.

The filly jumps from gate six and could prove hard to topple. As such, she is made the best bet on the day’s card. AARDVARK finished eighth in his latest outing over 1100M, just under four and a half lengths back from the winner and was immediately moved to another stable. He now has his first run for his new trainer after an 18 week break, but has had two barrier trials, winning the first and finishing fourth in the latest.

The gelding jumps from a useful draw four and if fully settled into his new surroundings, he should give a good account of himself here. MASSIRA followed up his penultimate run victory over 1000M with a second place finish next time out over the same sprint trip, 0.7L back from the winner. The gelding has his peak run for this new trainer after returning from a 38-week spell and from an even better draw two, he will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways here.

Race 7

Two 5yr old mares could fight out the finish to this race and complete the exacta, but the day’s vale bet, SPICY HOTPOT is taken to lead the field home. She completed her hat-trick when winning last time out over 1350M by just over a half-length.

She sat just behind the leaders on that occasion and then kicked clear at the 150M mark, before fighting off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. From gate six, the quartet is very much on the cards. JUNQUEIRA has finished closer to the winner in each of her last three starts, the latest when fifth over 1200M, 2.2L behind the victor, but she jumped awkwardly and was squeezed shortly thereafter in that event, but still managed to make good late progress over the closing stages.

The mare returns from a 26 week spell, but has had two barrier trials, winning the latest. Whilst having to negotiate a wideish draw eight, she should be right up there when they hit the line. KEITEL won his penultimate start over 1100M and was hampered shortly after the start and bumped at the 200M pole when coming from some way back to end up in sixth place last time out over 1100M, just under three and a half lengths adrift of the victor. He has pulled gate five and should turn in another honest performance in this line-up.

Race 8

This looks to be a tricky race to end off the day’s Jackpot with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. O’ZIGGY tried to go from jump to wire when finishing fourth in his latest outing over 2400M, 0.7L off the winner and on that effort, he should appreciate the drop in distance. He is drawn the widest of them all in gate thirteen, so he is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today.

BARAZIN has won two of his last three starts, the latest over 1900M by 1.8L, notwithstanding coming three wide into the home straight. He found the front at the 100M pole to win going away and although not drawn that much better in gate twelve, he should turn in another honest effort here.

LINCOLN ROCKS won his penultimate start over 2000M and then finished seventh next time out over 1900M, just over four and a half lengths back from the victor and the form of that race has been franked. The gelding has his first run after a 19 week break without having had the benefit of a barrier trial, so his fitness will have to be taken on trust, but from his kinder draw five and with 2kgs removed from his allocated weigh courtesy of his claiming apprentice, he should be involved in the finish.
