Race 5

SHOWTIME LADY is a 5yr old mare taking on the boys, but she had her consistency rewarded with a 0.8L victory last time out over 1300M, despite jumping awkwardly and losing a shoe in running. The form of that race has been franked and from draw five, she looks to be the one to side with here.

DUKE OF GORDON also won his last outing, but in his case over 1500M by a length. He came three wide into the home straight that day and shifted out from the 200M mark, so that effort was commendable. He is drawn one outside the top choice and will have his peak run after returning from a 19-week break.

AFRICAN DAISY is a 4yr old filly who was returning from a 20-week rest when winning her last start over seven furlongs by 0.8L. She came five wide approaching the home turn that day, but kicked clear of the field at the 250M mark before holding off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. She will have to negotiate gate ten, but nevertheless should be included in all bets.

Race 6

The day’s value bet, WHITE BOOTS is seldom far off the action and finished second last time out over ten furlongs, just a head behind the winner. He jumped awkwardly on that occasion and then came three wide into the home straight before shifting in over the closing 50M, so could be considered an unlucky loser. From his handy draw three, he will be hoping to chalk up his tenth career win today.

TRADITION is drawn one outside the top choice and put six lengths between himself and the opposition when winning his maiden race last time out over 1900M and has finished fourth in a subsequent barrier trial. The gelding struck the front at the 250M pole and was geared down going to the wire. He takes on stronger here but will get 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice, Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey, Jeff Lloyd to aid his cause.

JACK DUGGAN goes for his hat-trick after victories over a mile and the latest over 1900M by 1.8L. He raced just behind the leader that day before taking over the running approaching the home turn to record a facile win. He gets a wideish draw eight, but nevertheless, the trio is very much on the cards.

Race 7

GAME THEORY has finished second in his last two starts over six furlongs since returning from a 21-week break, the latest when 0.8L off the winner, but he was crowded at the start that day. He recovered quickly to take the lead, before being run out of it late. The gelding has pulled gate six and will be hoping to go one better today.

DESTINATION came three wide into the home stretch but hit the front at the 200M mark when winning his latest outing over 1100M by a length. He is drawn one outside the top pick and will be having his peak run after returning from a 25-week spell. In addition, he will have 1.5kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice.

QUEEN BELLISSIMO is a 5yr old mare taking on males, but will also get the services of a 1.5kg claiming apprentice. She battled all the way down to the wire when eighth last time out over five furlongs, 2.8L adrift of the victor and whilst facing a wide draw twelve, she should give the boys a good run for their money.

Race 8

HUON’S last three runs have yielded a second, a win and then another second-place finish last time out over 1100M, just a length off the winner, but he had to be held up between the 300M and 150M mark in that contest, before delivering a powerful finish over the closing stages. He attracted plenty of betting support that day and from a useful draw four and with 3kg claiming apprentice Zac Lloyd up, he will be hoping to make amends today and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

HE’S A HOTSHOT has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three runs, the latest when third over six furlongs, 1.3L adrift of the victor, when returning from an 18-week rest. He tried to go from gun to tape that day and from one gate outside the top pick, he is likely to adopt the same tactics here and could emerge as the biggest danger to the former.

AMORTAL has cracked pole position and followed up his penultimate run victory over six furlongs with a fifth spot finish next time out over 1100M, just under two and a half lengths behind the winner, when returning from a longer 38-week spell. He was slow away that day and raced three wide without cover, but the form of that race has been franked and he should be involved in the finish.
