Race 5.

DIRTY MERCHANT is a 2yr colt taking on older horses, but he was slow away and came three wide into the home straight when finishing third on debut over six furlongs, 1.8L behind the winner. He would have learnt from that experience and with the natural improvement that can be expected, he could be the one that they all have to beat, despite facing a wide draw nine.

VANBURG is drawn one inside the top choice and has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three runs, the latest when, although recorded as eighth over seven furlongs, he was just 3.8L adrift of the victor. He has his first run for his new trainer and returns from a 29 week break during which time he was gelded, but has had the benefit of two barrier trials to showcase his well-being. If fully settled into his new surroundings, he should give a good account of himself here.

APOLLO JOSH finished eighth first time out over five furlongs, just over five and a half lengths behind the winner, but that was at a stronger venter. He returns from a longer 70 week absence, but has had five barrier trials, finishing third in the last two. The fact that his connections have brought him back into racing after such a lengthy absence would seem to suggest that they believe that he still has something more to offer them. From draw six, he should be included in all bets.

Race 6.

EASIER is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys, but she has posted two solid last runs, the latest when winning her maiden contest over 1100M, putting five lengths between herself and the opposition when returning from a 23 week break, which was clearly just what was needed. She kicked clear at the 200M mark that day and the race was over at that point. From her handy draw three, she should be right up there when they hit the line.

CHOICE DEEL is seldom far off the action, finishing fifth last time out over 1300M, 2.7L back from the winner, but he overraced in the middle stages that day. He jumps from a wideish gate seven, but if settling in the running, he should be considered a big runner in this line-up.

DENI GAL is another 4yr old filly in the race. She battled all the way down to the wire when finishing second last time out over five furlongs, 1.8L behind the victor. She is sure to put her pole position to good use.

Race 7.

With the late scratching of one of his main rivals, the door may have opened for today’s value bet, HUXTON CREEPER to chalk up his second career victory. He finished strongly to end up fourth last time out over six furlongs, just over three lengths adrift of the winner, when returning from a 14 week rest, suggesting that the extra ground on offer here will be to his liking. He gets gate seven and could prove too strong for this field.

LAWYER’S DELIGHT is drawn one inside the top pick and had his consistency rewarded when winning his maiden race last time out over seven furlongs by a length. He was returning from a longer 30 week spell that day and the form of that race has been franked. The gelding could emerge as the biggest danger to the former.

BEL SUONO is a 4yr old filly taking on males and turn last into the home straight before mowing down the frontrunners to win her maiden contest over 1300M by 1.8L last time out. She is drawn the widest of them all in gate fourteen, but given her style of racing, she is likely to be dropped out of it in the early stages and then start to pick off the front runners over the closing stages of the race.

Race 8.

The day’s best bet, PANZARELLA is a 3yr old filly taking on boys, but she is two from two, winning both over today’s sprint trip, the latest by a head when returning from a 24 week rest and she could be just about anything. She raced just behind the leaders in that last victory and then sped to the front at the 200M pole, before holding off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. The form of that race has been franked and notwithstanding a wide gate eleven, the trio is very much on the cards.

TAI LUNG won on debut over five furlongs and then finished fifth next time out over the same distance, four lengths off the winner, but he did come the widest of them all into the home stretch that day, so should have finished closer to the winner than he officially did. From a kinder draw three, he should be in the mix.

I CALL JUNEE HOME on the other hand is drawn wide in gate fifteen out of sixteen, but she looked like the winner close to home when missing out on his hat-trick last time out, finishing second over five furlongs, one and a half lengths behind the winner. She is a 5yr old mare who returns from a 23 week break and who has not had a barrier trial, so her fitness will have to be taken on trust, but if fit and well, she should not be lightly overlooked.
