Race 4
Two 3-year-old fillies could fight out the finish to this race and complete the exacta, but CALL ME SUPER is taken to lead the field home. She had her consistency rewarded with her maiden victory by 0.8L last time out over 800M, when returning from a 14-week rest. That was only the third time of asking and she showed plenty of toe that day. From a handy draw two, she could prove hard to reel in over the closing stages.
ROYAL DIVIDE was having her first run for her new trainer and was returning from a 24-week break when winning her last start over five furlongs by a head. The form of that race has been franked and from gate five, she should be right up there when they hit the line.
CLIPPER SHIP won over 1300M three runs back, finished third in his penultimate start over six furlongs and then fourth in his latest outing over seven furlongs, 2.2L behind the winner, but he was slow away that day, before finishing off his race well. The gelding returns from a 25-week break without having had the benefit of a barrier trial, so his fitness will have to be taken on trust, but from a useful draw three, he should be included in all bets.
Race 5
The day’s value bet, BRING THE RABBLE finished eighth in his latest outing over 900M, eight lengths adrift of the winner, but he was bumped at the start and came three wide into the home straight, so he had his excuses. The gelding has his first run after a 23-week rest without having had a barrier trial, but he gets gate five and will have 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice. He will be hoping to return to the form that saw him winning over this sprint trip four runs’ backs.
IOBJECT showed solid improvement to win his last start over five furlongs by a half length. He raced three wide without cover in that event, striking the front at the 200M mark and then holding off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. The gelding faces a wide draw nine, but on the plus side, he will have 2kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice.
GIRLS KICK ON is a 6-year-old mare taking on the boys, but she has a kinder draw three and went from gun to tape to win her last start over five furlongs by a length and was immediately rested for 52 weeks. She has had one barrier trial which she won and the fact that her connections have brought her back into racing after such a lengthy absence would seem to suggest that they believe that she still has something more to offer them.
Race 6
FIVE CROWNS is seldom too far off the action and although recorded as finishing ninth last time out over a mile, he was just 2.8L back from the winner. He finished well that day and from a useful draw two, he should turn in another honest performance today.
CASIRINA delivered a powerful finish from some way back when ending up in fourth spot last time out over seven furlongs, 3.8L back from the victor. The gelding returns from a 14-week rest, but has won his only barrier trial to showcase his well-being. From gate six, he should be doing his best work late.
BETTER EXPLAIN has finished third in three of his last five outings, but was a tad disappointing when ending up in twelfth place last time out over seven furlongs, 15.3L adrift of the winner, but he was slow away in that contest and never really recovered to get back into the race, so a line should be drawn through that effort. The gelding is drawn one outside the latter and will be hoping to bounce back to his better form here.
Race 7
SWIFT CHARM boasts a record of three wins, two at the track, and four second-place finishes from his twelve starts to date and had finished second in his last two runs prior to ending up in fourth place last time out over seven furlongs, just under a length and a half off the winner. He battled all the way down to the wire that day and could prove hard to topple here, jumping from draw seven. As such, he is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.
ZANARDEE’S LANE has consistent formlines to his name, with his last four runs yielding a win, two seconds and a third-place finish last time out over 1100M, just a length behind the winner. He was returning from a 20-week rest that day and had to check at the 600M pole, so that effort was encouraging. The gelding is drawn one outside the top pick and could be his biggest danger.
MONTE OUTLANDER is another who has consistent formlines to his credit and followed up his penultimate run victory over seven furlongs with a fifth-place finish next time out over seven furlongs, 1.7L back from the winner, but it should be noted that he was crowded at the start and then had to be held up between the 350M and 200M mark. He returns from a 17-week absence, without the benefit of a barrier trial, but he has pulled gate five and will have the services of a 3kg claiming apprentice. He should be involved in the finish.
