Race 4
ROTHGATE followed up her penultimate run victory over 1300M with a sixth-place finish next time out over 1290M, 1.3L back from the winner. He sat up with the leaders that day and was only run out of it late. The gelding gets draw seven and should have no issue with the step-up in distance.
HALLOWED STAR is seldom far off the action, finishing fourth last time out over six furlongs, 2.3L behind the winner. He finished well from some way back in that event and given that he is drawn the widest of them all in gate fourteen and his style of racing, he is likely to be dropped out of it in the early stages and then start to pick off the front runners over the latter part of the race.
ERELLE is a 3-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she showed solid improvement to win her last start over 1300M by one and a half lengths, despite coming wide approaching the home turn. She did however finish off her race strongly and from a handy draw two and with 2kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice, she should be included in all bets.
Race 5
The day’s value bet, DESTINY’S BOUNTY has posted two encouraging last runs and tried to go from jump to wire last time out before being grabbed over the final 100M to end up in fourth place, 0,8L back from the winner over 1290M. He has pulled gate six and will have 1.5kg removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice and is likely to attempt similar tactics today.
EAGLEDGE has only had two runs to date, finishing second on debut over six furlongs and then showing the expected improvement to win next time out over 1100M by a half-length. He jumped awkwardly in that contest but recovered quickly to race just behind the pacesetters before striking the front at the 100M mark to record a well-timed victory. The gelding returns from a 29-week spell, but has had the benefit of two barrier trials. He will have to deal with a wide draw eighteen, but he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.
DANCEDES is a 4-year-old filly taking on males, but she has also only had the two runs to date, winning first time out over six furlongs and then finishing sixth next time out over 1100M, just under six lengths adrift of the winner, when returning from a lengthy 46-week spell. From gate five, she will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways today.
Race 6
DEVINE CHOPS finished third on debut over 1100M and then won his next start over five furlongs by putting three lengths between himself and the opposition. He was returning from a 41-week break that day and showed plenty of toe. The gelding has a useful gate two and could prove hard to topple here and as such, he is made the best bet on the day’s card.
APOLLO STAR won over five furlongs three runs back and then finished third in his next two outings, the latest over the same five-furlong sprint trip, one and a half lengths off the victor. He raced wide with no cover in that contest but did well to stay on over the latter stages. The gelding jumps from draw seven and will get the services of a 1.5kg claiming apprentice.
KEEP ON GOING has cracked pole position and won his penultimate start over seven furlongs and then finished a disappointing thirteenth next time out over the same journey, 5.3L adrift of the winner and was immediately rested for 18 weeks. He returns here without having had the benefit of a barrier trial, so his fitness will have to be taken on trust, but he will be in receipt of 2kgs for his claiming apprentice.
Race 7
This looks to be a tricky race to end off the day’s Jackpot with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. However, a 5-year-old mare and a 4-year-old filly could fight out the finish to this race and complete the exacta, but ADELSUN is taken to lead the field home. Although recorded as finishing fifth last time out, she was just 1.3L behind the winner. She turned second into the home straight in that event and then battled all the way down to the wire. The mare will have her peak run after returning from a 23-week break and gets a cosy draw two to aid her cause.
DEVINE RENDEZVOUS came three wide into the home stretch but finished well from mid-field to end up in second spot last time out over six furlongs, just a length back from the winner. She also has her peak run after returning from a longer 29-week break and whilst drawn wide in gate thirteen, on the plus side she will get 2kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice.
DREAM GAME was trapped wide but stayed on well to finish sixth last time out over six furlongs, three and a half lengths behind the winner, so he had his excuse. The gelding will have to deal with a wide draw nine, but he will also have 2kgs removed from his allocated weight for the services of his claiming apprentice and he should be doing his best work late.
