Race 4

THE HUNGARIAN has cracked pole position and followed up his penultimate run victory over seven furlongs with a second-place finish next time out over 1450M, 2.2L behind the winner. He raced three wide that day, striking the front at the 175M mark, but was run out of it late. He gets ex-SA jockey Donovan Dillon in the irons, so will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle and ii to be the best bet on the day’s card.

ZOUNILE is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys and raced just behind the leaders when finishing third last time out over 1300M, just a neck back from the winner. She on the other hand is drawn wide in gate sixteen but has her peak run after returning from a 27-week break. She will also have the blinkers re-fitted and if this move has the desired effect, she should be right up there when they hit the line.

TURGENEV also won his penultimate start, but in his case over six furlongs and then finished fourth next time out over a mile, just over two and a half lengths off the winner and the form of that race has been franked. The gelding jumps from gate six and should be involved in the finish.

Race 5

LARYNX has consistent formlines to his name, having finished second in his last two starts, the latest over 1250M, just a neck behind the winner. He raced just behind the leaders that day and then kicked clear at the top of the home straight, only to be nabbed in the shadow of the post. From draw seven, he looks to be the one to side with here. A 4yr old filly and a 6yr old mare could chase him home, with the slight preference going to

ANGELICAL, who made solid improvement to win her last start over 1450M and was immediately rested for 30 weeks. She returns here after having had the benefit of two barrier trials and from one gate inside the top choice, she could be his immediate danger.

WHATSIN was returning from a 31-week absence when winning her last outing over 1280M, albeit by just a neck. She had to be held up on the home turn in that contest but delivered a powerful finish over the latter stages. She is drawn the widest of them all in gate eleven, but she should be doing her best work late to be involved in the finish.

Race 6

The day’s value bet, RUBI AIR is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys, but she is seldom far off the action, finishing second last time out over 1100M, 0.8L back from the winner. She was hampered at the start but recovered quickly to pick up the lead and was only reeled in late. She will have to deal with a wide draw fourteen, but on the plus side, she will have 2kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice.

VOLTERRA has won two of his last four starts but was disappointing when finishing a distance back last time out over six furlongs, but that was at a stronger centre and in very heavy going, so that run is best ignored. He has not fared too much better with his draw thirteen, but he will be hoping to bounce back to his better form here.

KEEP ON GOING raced just off the pace before battling all the way down to the wire to end up in second spot last time out over five furlongs, just a length and a half behind the winner. The gelding continues the trend of poor draws, being in gate eleven, but he should use his early gate speed to move across without using up too much gas.

Race 7

TICKET TO ANYWHERE did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight, being disappointed for a run at the 200M pole when finishing sixth last time out over 1100M, 3.3L back from the victor. The gelding has pulled a wide draw ten, but with better luck in running, he could provide trainer Brett Robb with a quick double.

SCOPICS has only had the two runs to date, winning both, the first over 1300M and the latest over 1280M and could be just about anything. He was hampered at the start but produced a strong finish to mow down the frontrunner over the latter stages. The gelding is stuck out wide in gate fifteen, but he should keep the top pick honest.

AVALICIOUS is a 4yr old filly taking on males, but she is a speedy sort who hung out in the home straight to finish third in his latest outing over six furlongs, 0.7L behind the winner, when returning from a 39 week absence. She has a wideish draw eight, but she should give the boys a good run for their money.
