Race 4

DEMITASSE is a four-time winner from sixteen starts and stayed on well when finishing ninth last time out over 1400M, 4.8L behind the winner. He returns from a 29-week break, but has had three barrier trials to showcase his well-being. From draw six, he will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways.

RHYTHM IS A DANCER was returning from a 25-week break and was slow away, but finished well to end up in fifth place last time out over 1000M, just over two lengths back from the winner, suggesting that the extra ground on offer here will be to his liking and his handy draw four will do him no harm.

RUSSLEY CROWN overraced throughout and was reported to be lame in his near-hind when finishing seventh in his latest outing over 1500M, just under eight lengths adrift of the winner, so that effort is best ignored. The gelding has his first run after a 16-week rest, but has had the benefit of two barrier trials.

Race 5

The day’s value bet, LEICA MODEL is a 5-year-old mare taking on the boys, but she missed out on her hat-trick after victories over 1400M and 1300M when finishing seventh last time out back over 1400M, 4.7L behind the winner, but she raced three wide without cover that day. The form of that race has however been franked and from gate six, she looks to be the one that they all must beat.

ANCIENT EGYPT was slow away and raced three wide without cover, but stayed on well to finish fourth last time out over 1600M, 3.8L off the winner. He faces a wide draw ten, but on the plus side, he will get 1.5kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.

HARDYO on the other hand goes for his hat-trick after two victories over 1600M, the latest by 1.8L. He raced up with the leaders, but wide in that event and then battled all the way down to the wire. The gelding is drawn the widest of them all in gate fifteen, but he is likely to use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy and should be included in all bets.

Race 6

RURA PENTHE has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three starts, the latest when sixth over 1200M, 1.7L behind the victor and he has finished sixth in a subsequent barrier trial. He played up in the pens on that occasion before not getting the clearest of passages in the home straight, having to weave his way through traffic. The gelding will have to negotiate a wide gate seventeen, but he should be doing his best work late.

POWER BEAU followed up his penultimate run victory over 1200M with a third-place finish next time out over 1300M, beaten just a short-head. He chased hard all the way down to the wire that day and the objection lodged by his connections against the winner was overruled and the original result was allowed to stand. The gelding will have to deal with a wide gate ten, but will have 1.5kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice.

GREAT SIEGE overraced just behind the frontrunners in the early and middle stages and hung out approaching the home turn when ending up in fourth spot last time out over 1200M, 1.3L behind the winner. The gelding is another who faces a wide draw, in his case thirteen, but he is a speedy sort who should be able to work his way across without using up too much gas.

Race 7

NOT WRITTEN OFF is a 4-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she showed plenty of toe and then kicked clear of the opposition at the entrance to the home straight to put two and a half lengths between herself and the opposition when winning her last start over 1100M comfortably. She jumps from a useful gate three and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

DONT CALL ME HONEY is the stable companion of the top choice and was bumped at the start when finishing thirteenth last time out over 1100M, just over eight lengths behind the winner, but that was at a stronger centre and the form of that race has stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning. The gelding faces a wide draw ten, but nevertheless, he makes a solid back-up for the yard.

JET EMPRESS is a 5-year-old mare who jumped awkwardly, but delivered a powerful finish from some way back to win her last start over 1000M, by a half-length. She is drawn one inside the latter and will get the services of a 1.5kg claiming apprentice.
