Race 7
BROADSIDING is a three time Group 1 winner who won a Group 2 event by just under a length last time out over 1400M, when returning from a 15 week rest. He struck the front at the 150M mark that day and then fought off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire.
The colt gets a handy draw four and looks hard to topple. As such, he is made the best bet on the day’s card. He renews her rivalry with SWIFTFALCON who finished second last time out in the same race mentioned above, just under that length back from the former. He was returning from a slightly longer 17 week break on that occasion and was making good late progress over the latter stages. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and from one gate outside the top pick, he may find it difficult to reverse that result.
AELIANA is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys, but she did finish third in the same race above, 1.2L behind the winner, this after jumping awkwardly, bumping another runner. Like the latter, she meets the top pick on the same weight terms today, so she is likely to have to settle for the same result. She gets a useful gate three and there should not be too much separating the second and third pick when they hit the line.
Race 8
Two 5yr old mares could fight out the finish to this race and complete the exacta, but MAGIC TIME is taken to lead the field home. She had her consistency rewarded with a neck victory last time out over 1200M (G1), this despite being bumped at the start and having to be held up between the 400M and 150M mark. She was returning from a 14 week rest that day, but finished best for a well-timed win. The mare jumps from gate six and is likely to turn in another honest performance here.
SUNSHINE IN PARIS had to be held up between the 400M and 200M pole, but finished off her race well to win her last start over 1200M (G1) in the shadow of the post by a head. She now returns from a 17 week rest, but she has had two barrier trials, finishing third in the first and second in the latest to showcase her well-being. Although drawn the widest of them all in gate twelve, she should be right up there when they hit the line.
SWITZERLAND missed out on his hat-trick after two victories over 1200M, when finishing fourth last time out over 1000M (G1), 2.8L behind the winner. He was returning from a 15 week rest that day and whilst drawn wide in gate nine, with better luck in running, the colt should be included in all bets.
Race 9
This looks to be a tricky race with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. OUR ANCHORAGE has, however, rattled off four wins on the trot, the latest over 1900M (G3) by a head. He sat just behind the leader and then took over at the 150M mark and just lasted long enough to claim the victory. The gelding faces a wide draw thirteen, but he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.
He renews his battles with ASTERIX who finished seventh last time out in the same race mentioned above, just two lengths back from the victor. He made good late progress in that event and should enjoy the extra distance of today’s contest. The gelding has his peak run for his new trainer after returning from a 48 week spell and has pulled a kinder draw three. He now meets the top choice on 1.0kgs better terms, so that should bring them closer together when they hit the winning post.
LALCANCE has cracked pole position and won three and four runs back, then finished second in his next two outings, the first over 2000M and the latest over 2400M, just a head off the winner. He returns from a 13 week rest, but has had the benefit of two barrier trials, finishing fourth in the latest and will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways here.
Race 10
The day’s value bet, CLEAR THINKING has only had five runs to date, recording four wins and a second, so she clearly has some ability. She ran on strongly from too far back for that second place last time out over 1200M, finishing just a half length behind the winner. The form of that race has been franked and although drawn wide in gate ten, he will have Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey Jeff Lloyd in the irons to aid his cause.
SHEZANALISTER followed up her penultimate run victory over 1000M with a third place finish next time out over 1100M, just under a half lengths back from the winner. She battled all the way down to the wire that day and is drawn one inside the former. The mare will be having her peak run after returning from a 19 week break.
OUTBACK MISS goes for her hat-trick after victories over 1000M and the latest over 1100M by 1.2L, this despite being crowded at the start and having to be held up between the 300M and 200M mark. Once in the clear, she kicked clear of the opposition to win going away. From her kinder draw three, the trio is very much on the cards.
