Race 7

PERICLES is a two-time Group 2 winner who followed up his penultimate run victory over 1500M with a third-place finish next time out over 1800M (G1), four lengths back from the winner, this after striking the front at the 250M mark and only being run out of it late. He gets a handy draw four and is taken to be the value bet on the day’s card.

ROYAL PATRONAGE is also a dual Group 2 winner who has finished third in his last two starts, the latest over 1600M (G1), two lengths behind the winner after racing just behind the leaders and then chasing hard all the way down to the wire and whilst he will have to negotiate a wide draw ten, but he should be right up there when they hit the line.

He renews his rivalry with KOVALICA who is a one-time Group 2 winner and who finished fourth last time out in the same race mentioned above, just over two lengths back from the victor.

The former is 0.5kgs better off at today’s weights, so it may be difficult for the latter to reverse that result. He does however jump from a kinder draw two and gets the services of non-claiming apprentice, Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey, Jeff Lloyd and there should not be much separating the pair when they arrive at the winning post.

Race 8

This looks to be a tricky race with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. The tentative top pick goes to GRINGOTTS who missed out on his quartet after two victories over 1400M and one over 1600M, when finishing second last time out over 1400M (G3), beaten just a short-head. He was returning from an 18-week break that day and had to be held up at the 400M mark and the form of that race has been franked.

The gelding jumps from gate seven and will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways here.

ENCAP showed solid improvement to win his last start over 1300M (G2), albeit by just a head and has finished second in a subsequent barrier trial. The gelding came four wide into the home straight in that event, but made good late progress over the closing stages, suggesting that he should enjoy the extra ground on offer here. He has a handy draw three and will be having his peak run after returning from an 18-week rest.

MAKARENA is a 4-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she delivered a powerful finish to win her last start over 1400M (G2) by 1.3L going away. She will have to overcome a wide draw fifteen, but she will be having her peak run after returning from a longer 22 weeks and will have Zac Lloyd in the saddle to aid her cause.

Race 9

OLENTIA followed up her penultimate run victory over 1500M (G2) with a seventh-place finish next time out over 1600M (G1), just over two and a half lengths back from the winner, but she jumped awkwardly that day, bumping another runner and then raced three wide throughout. She did however finish well from some way back and from her cozy draw three, she looks to be the one to side with in this line-up. The mare returns from a 26-week break but has finished fourth in her only barrier trial.

COCO JAMBOO overraced in the early and middle stages and then hung out in the latter stages when ending up in thirteenth place last time out over 1400M (G1), just over five lengths adrift of the winner. She is drawn one inside the top pick and will be looking for her fifth career victory.

PEACE TREATY has cracked pole position and goes for her hat-trick after victories over 1200M and the latest over 1100M by 0.8L. She jumped awkwardly in that event but finished best of all and the trio is very much on the cards.

Race 10

Two 4yr old fillies and a 6yr old mare could fight out the finish to this race and complete the trifecta, but the day’s best bet, PHARARI is taken to lead the field home to give trainer Carion Maher a double in the Jackpot, should the top choice win the second leg and end a red letter day for Zac Lloyd.

She has won three of her last five starts and followed her penultimate start victory over 1000M with a third spot finished last time out over 1100M, just a length back from the winner, but she had nothing go her way that day. The filly was slow away, was disappointed for a run at the 400M mark and only saw daylight at the 100M pole, before finishing off her race powerfully.

She was also reported to have lost a near-hind shoe in running and she is sure to put her pole position to good use.

CONFESS OUR DREAMS has consistent formlines to her name and was bumped at the start, but recovered quickly to take up the lead before finishing fourth in her latest outing over 1100M, just over a length off the winner. She will be having her peak run after returning from 18 weeks and although drawn wide in gate fourteen, she should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

DOLLAR MAGIC won her penultimate start over 1100M and then finished fifth next time out over the same sprint trip, 2.2L behind the winner. She returns from a 17-week rest but has won her only barrier trial to showcase her well-being. From her handy draw three, she should be involved in the finish.
