Race 7

ANDERMATT is a five time winner from nine starts and completed his hat-trick last time out over 1100M when winning by 2.8L, after hitting the front at the 350M mark to win going away. He has his peak run after returning from a 31 week break and the quartet of victories is very much on the cards. He faces a wide draw fourteen out of fifteen, but he is likely to be dropped out of it in the early stages and then start to pick off the front runners over the closing stages of the race.

TYCOONIST on the other hand has cracked pole position and has won two of his last four starts and finished second in the other two. His last start victory was by just under half a length over five furlongs when returning from a 15 week rest. He raced just behind the leader in that contest and then ran him down close to home.

FLYING CRAZY has won three of his last five outings and ran on well to win his last start over seven furlongs by 1.3L. He faces a wide gate ten, but he should be doing his best work late.

Race 8

This looks to be a tricky Fillies & Mares Handicap with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. The tentative top choice goes to LE GAI SOLEIL who followed up her penultimate run victory over 1300M with a sixth place finish next time out when stepping up to a mile, just over six and a half lengths adrift of the winner, but she did jump awkwardly that day. She has had the two barrier trials since then, winning the first and finishing third in the latest. She gets draw seven and should do better dropping to what appears to be a more suitable distance.

MAJESTIC SHOT is seldom far off the action, finishing third last time out over six furlongs, 1.8L back from the winner, but she had nothing go her way that day. She was slow away, had to be steadied at the 150M mark before finally being held up between the 100M and 50M poles. She jumps from a handy draw two and with better luck in running today, she should be right up there when they hit the line.

MIRRA VISION had to be switched at the 380M mark before ending up in sixth place last time out over 1500M, just under three and a half lengths behind the winner, but that was in a Group 2 event. She is drawn one outside the latter and should be included in all bets.

Race 9

The day’s best bet, ANDERMATT completed his hat-trick when winning last time out over 1100M by 2.8L. He struck the front at the 350M mark and the race was over as a competition at that point. He has his peak run after returning from a 31 week absence and has a wideish gate eight, but nevertheless he could prove too good for this line-up and be hard to topple.

MALKOVICH put his disappointing penultimate run behind him when finishing second last time out over 1100M, just under half a length off the winner. He attracted plenty of betting support that day, but was bumped at the start, before recovering quickly to take the lead, only to be collared in the shadow of the post. He is sure to put his pole position to good use in an attempt to make amends for that last defeat.

ROHERYN won his penultimate start over six furlongs and then finished thirteenth last time out in the $1M MM Sprint over the same trip, seven and a half lengths adrift of the winner. It should however be noted that he had to be checked at the 300M mark and dropped out of the race completely. He gets gate ten and returns here after a 17 week break, but has had the benefit of two barrier trials to showcase his well-being. The gelding is the stable companion to the top choice and makes a solid back-up for the successful James Cummings yard.

Race 10

ATHELRIC has his hat-trick run after two victories over five furlongs, the latest by 2.7L, even though he raced wide throughout. The gelding has pulled a cozy draw three and will have 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice. As such, he is taken to be the value bet on the day’s program and to give the James Cummings yard the last two legs of the day’s Jackpot.

AMERICAN PRESIDENT will be trying to complete the quartet of wins after victories over 1300M and the last two over six furlongs, the latest when trotting up to a 5.3L victory, this despite hanging out from the 600M mark. He will have to negotiate draw eight, but he looks to be the obvious threat to the top choice.

RAINBOW CONNECTION’S first four outings have yielded one win, one second and two third place finishes, the latest that runners-up berth over seven furlongs, just under a half length back from the winner. He will have to overcome a wide gate twelve, but will have ex-SA jockey Keagan Latham in the irons, so will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle. The gelding returns from a 54 week absence, but has had three barrier trials, finishing second in the latest and the fact that his connections have brought him back into racing after such a lengthy absence would seem to suggest that they believe that he still has something more to offer them.
