Race 7.

SURF DANCER went from jump to wire to win his last start over nine furlongs by 1.3L. He was not stopping over the closing stages that day, so the extra ground of today’s contest should not be an issue. From gate six, he is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card. He renews his rivalry with SKYMAN who finished third in the same event mentioned above, one and a half lengths behind the top choice. He is 1kg better off at today’s weights and has a better draw two, but whilst this should bring the pair closer together, that last result is expected to be confirmed.

DR DRILL is drawn one outside the latter and has finished second in three of his last five outings, the latest over a mile, just a half length behind the winner. He made good late progress that day and will have ex-SA jockey Keagan Latham in the irons, so will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle. The gelding should be involved in the finish and could complete the trifecta.

Race 8.

This looks to be a tricky race with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested.

SIBAAQ has won two of his last three runs and finished second in the other. His latest victory was over a mile, winning by one and a half lengths when sitting just behind the leaders before hitting the front at the 200M mark and then holding off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. He gets a wide gate eleven, but on the plus side, he will get 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.

EAGLEMONT race wide throughout, but still found a powerful finish to win his last start over nine furlongs by one and a half lengths. He gets a wideish draw eight, but he should be doing his best work late.

EASIFAR is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys, but she made good late progress when finishing third last time out over six furlongs, just over one and a half lengths back from the winner. That was her first run since a year’s absence and the fact that her connections have brought her back into racing after such a lengthy absence would seem to suggest that they believe that she still has something more to offer them. She is drawn one outside the latter and will have 2kgs removed from her allocated weight courtesy of her claiming apprentice to aid her cause.

Race 9.

PER INAWAY has a smart record, which reads, five runs for three wins, a second and a third place finish. She won her last start, her first in Australia since relocating from the UK, over six furlongs by 0.8L and gets a useful draw four and will also have the services of a 3kg claiming apprentice. She will have come on further with that run under her belt and could prove difficult to topple in this line-up.

LADY OF LUXURY has finished third in her last two outings, the latest over seven furlongs, just under three lengths off the winner. She stayed on well on that contest and has cracked pole position. She will also be having her peak run since returning from an 18 week break, so should not be lightly overlooked.

BELLA ROUGE has won two of her last three outings and overraced in the early stages, but still managed to win her last start over seven furlongs, albeit by just a short-head. She gets gate seven and will be having her peak run after returning from a longer 26 week absence, so should be included in all bets.

Race 10.

The day’s value bet, FRENCH MARINE is seldom far off the action, finishing third last time out over 1300M, 1.8L behind the winner. He jumped awkwardly that day, but still finished off his race well. The gelding gets gate five and could give trainer Kris Lees and 3kgs claiming apprentice jockey Dylan the last two legs of the day’s Jackpot.

EL BUENA is drawn one inside the top pick and has finished second in his last two runs over six furlongs since returning from a 15 week spell, the latest when just a head back from the winner. He was well supported in the betting markets that day, but came four wide into the home straight and will be looking to make amends today.

TITANIUM POWER tried to go from gun to tape when making solid improvement to finish third over 1300M last time out, just a length behind the winner. He on the other hand will have to overcome a wide draw twelve, but he is a speedy sort who should be able to work his way across without using up too much energy.
