Race 7

POWERFUL PEG is a 4-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she won over seven furlongs three runs back, finished sixth in her penultimate start over 1300M and then second in her latest outing over six furlongs, just a head behind the winner. She jumped awkwardly bumping another runner that day and came four wide into the home straight, before staying on well over the closing stages. The filly was returning from an 18-week break that day and the form of that race has been franked. From draw six, she looks to be the one to side with here.

DANAUSTAR missed out on his hat-trick after victories over six and seven furlongs when finishing second last time out over 1300M, just a half-length behind the winner. He tried to go from jump to wire that day and from his handy draw two, he is likely to attempt similar tactics today.

ROBUSTO has cracked pole position and followed up his penultimate run victory over 1300M with a fourth-place finish next time out over seven furlongs, three lengths back from the winner. He raced just behind the leaders in that event and then hung in down the home straight, so he had his excuse.

Race 8

STEP ASIDE has consistent formlines to his name and made good late progress when finishing third in his latest outing over seven furlongs, just a half-length back from the winner. The form of that race has stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning and the gelding is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card. He is sure to put his pole position to good use.

BUILLT is the stable companion to the top choice and has won two of his last three starts, finishing second in the other, so he clearly has some ability. He jumped awkwardly bumping another runner on that occasion, but stayed on well for that last victory and with his handy draw three, he makes a solid back-up for the powerful Chris Waller yard.

CRAFTY EAGLE jumped awkwardly bumping another runner and then overraced in the early and middle stages before ending up in fifth spot last time out over a mile, four and a half lengths adrift of the victor, but the form of that race has been franked. The gelding has pulled draw six and should be involved in the finish.

Race 9

OUR KOBISON has the advantage of pole position and missed out on his hat-trick after two victories over five furlongs when finishing second last time out over the same sprint trip, just under a half-length behind the winner, when returning from a 21-week absence. He raced three wide without cover that day, so that effort was encouraging.

Two 4-year-old fillies could chase him home, with the slight preference going to TINTOOKIE who renews her rivalry with the top pick. She has won two of her last three runs, the latest when defeating the former by that 0.4L in the race mentioned above over five furlongs. She was returning from a shorter 18-week rest that day and raced four wide into the home stretch, but still managed to finish off her race strongly. The filly has a useful gate four, but as she meets the former on 1.5kgs worse term at today’s weights, she may battle to confirm that last result.

BUBBA’S BAY is another who missed out on her hat-trick after two wins over six furlongs, when finishing fourth last time out over 1100M, just under two lengths back from the winner, when returning from a 17-week absence. She tried to go from gun to tape in that event and from her wide gate twelve, she is likely to try to do the same here.

Race 10

The day’s value bet, PRINCIPESSA has pole position and jumped awkwardly bumping another runner before battling all the way down to the wire, to end up in fifth place last time out over 1300M, just over three lengths back from the winner. She has her peak run after returning from an 18-week spell and should turn in another honest performance today.

CENTRESTONE has consistent formlines to her name and followed up her penultimate run victory over seven furlongs with a fourth-place finish next time out over the same trip, 1.2L back from the winner. She finished powerfully from some way back on that occasion and from gate two and having her peak run after returning from a 19 week break, she should be right up there when they hit the line.

GIVE ME JOY goes for her hat-trick after two victories over 1300M, the latest by a half length. She overraced at the head of affairs and then held off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. She faces a wide draw nine, but on the plus side, she will have 3kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice.
