Race 7

BANANA QUEEN has cracked pole position and goes for her hat-trick after victories over six furlongs and the latest over seven furlongs, albeit by just a head, despite coming the widest of them all into the home straight and shifting inwards over the final 50M. The form of that race has been franked and she looks to be the one to side with here.

SWEET MERCY followed up her penultimate run victory over 1500M with a second-place finish next time out over seven furlongs, just a head back from the winner. She came three wide into the home stretch and was hampered at the 50M pole, so can be considered an unlucky loser. She on the other hand is drawn the widest of them all in gate twelve, but she should be doing her best work late and is trained by ex-SA jockey/trainer David Payne.

ELLA TE AMA also won her penultimate start, but in her case over a mile and then ended up in seventh place last time out over the same journey, just over four and a half lengths adrift of the winner, but she was bumped shortly after the start but stayed on well over the closing stages. From her kinder draw two and with having 2kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice, she should be included in all bets.

Race 8

The day’s value bet, KANAZAWA had his consistency rewarded with a victory last time out over seven furlongs by just under a half-length, notwithstanding coming three wide into the home straight. The gelding hit the front at the 300M mark and then held off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. He has a handy draw two and will get 2kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice.

KETTLE HILL jumped awkwardly and found himself towards the back of the field, but finished well to end up in fifth place last time out over a mile, just over four and a half lengths off the winner. He is drawn the widest of them all in gate 14, but will be having his peak run after returning from a 63-week spell and the fact that his connections have brought him back into racing after such a lengthy absence would seem to suggest that they believe that he still has something more to offer them.

FRUMOS is a 5yr old mare taking on the boys, but she has solid form to her name, winning her latest outing by a short-head, getting up in the shadow of the post after battling all the way down to the wire. She is drawn in gate six and should be right up there when they hit the line.

Race 9

BULLFINCH is seldom far off the action and has finished third and second in his last two outings over this mile trip, the latest just under a length behind the winner. He stayed on well that day and from draw five, he will be hoping to go one better here and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

STAR SPARKS missed out on his hat-trick when finishing fourth last time out over 1500M, just under one and a half lengths adrift of the winner when returning from a 20-week break. He has pulled a useful gate two and will have a set of blinkers re-fitted. If this move has the desired effect, he should be a big runner here.

BAZOOKA had to be held up between the 400M and 300M mark before finishing off his race well to win going away by half a length. He faces a wide draw nine, but on the plus side, he will be having his peak run after returning from a 15-week rest and will have 2kg taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice. He could give David Payne another winning on the day.

Race 10

NARITO was returning from a 22-week absence when winning his last start over 1100M by one and a half-length, which was clearly just what he needed. He jumped awkwardly and his jockey dropped his crop at the 100M mark, so that effort was encouraging. From draw seven, he could provide the powerful trainer/jockey combination of Chris Waller and James McDonald a quick consecutive race double.

PO KARE KARE is drawn one inside the top pick and is a 4yr old filly taking on males. She was bumped at the start and held up between the 400m and 250M mark when winning her last start over 1100M by 0.8L and her jockey also put up 0.5kgs overweight. She was also returning from a 22-week rest that day.

DIAMOND DEALER is another 4yr old filly in the race. She has consistent formlines to her credit, winning her last outing over 1100M by 1.3L, this after jumping awkwardly. She gets the services of a 2kg claiming apprentice and should put her pole position to good use.
