Race 7

FANGIRL is a 6-year-old mare taking on the boys, but her Group 1 record reads, three wins, five second and two third-place finishes. She followed up her penultimate run victory over 1400M (G2) with a second-place finish next time out over 1600M (G1), just a neck back from the winner. She was slow away that day but finished powerfully to just fail to overhaul the winner. The mare will have to negotiate a wide draw nine, but she is having her peak run after returning from a 14-week rest and she should be doing her best work late.

CEOLWULF stayed on strongly when finishing fifth last time out over 1300M (G1), 2.3L behind the winner, suggesting that the extra ground on offer here will be to his liking. He has his peak run after returning from a longer 17-week break and from his handy draw two, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

ROYAL PATRONAGE put his disappointing penultimate start over 2040M behind him when winning by just under a half-length next time out over 1300M. He was returning from a 19-week rest that day and finished best for a well-time win. The gelding is drawn one outside the latter and should be included in all bets.

Race 8

The day’s value bet, TEMPTED is a 2-year-old filly bumping male, but she has cracked pole position and has won two of her last four outings, the latest over 1200M (G2) by just under a half-length. She came four wide into the home straight in that event but finished strongly to record a well-timed victory. A third career win is very much on the cards.

RIVELLINO is three for three, the latest win coming over 1200M (G2) by a head, this after coming four wide into the home stretch, before battling all the way down to the wire. The form of that race has been franked and from a useful draw three and Hugh Bowman travelling from Hong Kong to take the ride, he must be a serious player in this line-up.

WODETON won on debut over 1100M and then finished third in his next start also over 1100M (G2) and then second in his latest outing over 1200M (G2), 0,8L back from the victor. The colt struck the front at the 200M mark, only to be grabbed late. He is drawn one inside the latter and should not be lightly dismissed.

Race 9

This looks to be a tricky race with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested.

PRIVATE HARRY has won all four of his starts to date, the latest over today’s sprint trip by just under two and a half lengths. He kicked clear of the field at the 200M mark that day to win easing down at the line. The colt returns from an 11-week rest, but he has won both of his barrier trials to showcase his well-being. From gate six, he will be hoping to preserve his unbeaten record.

COMMEMORATIVE is a 4-year-old filly taking on boys, but she raced three wide throughout and then came five wide into the home straight when winning by 1.7L last time out over 1200M (G3), despite hanging in down to the wire. She gets a cozy draw two and will be aided by the services of Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey Jeff Lloyd.

GROWING EMPIRE overraced in the first half, but was still able to battle all the way down to the line when ending up in the fourth spot last time out over 1200M (G1), three and a half lengths adrift of the victor. The colt has his peak run after returning from a 15-week rest and will be looking to secure his fifth career win.

Race 10

OUTBACK MISS missed out on her hat-trick after victories over 1000M and 1100M when finishing second last time out over 1200M (G3), 1.8L behind the winner, but she was slow away that day and then did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight, having to weave her way through traffic. The filly has pulled a handy draw three and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

WOOLOOWIN has won four of her last six starts, the latest over 1300M by two and a half lengths, notwithstanding jumping awkwardly. She struck the front at the 200M mark in that event to win going away. The filly has her first run after an 11-week rest but has finished second in her only barrier trial and jumping from gate seven, she could prove to be the biggest threat to the top pick.

SPRING LEE has consistent form lines to her name and followed up her penultimate run victory over 1200M with a fourth-place finish next time out over the same C&D, two lengths back from the winner. She tried to go from jump to wire that day and from her wideish draw eight, she is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today.
