Race 7.

WICKLOW followed up his penultimate run victory over 1500M with a fourth place finish last time out over a mile, 3.2L behind the winner, but he came three wide approaching the home turn, before making good late progress over the closing stages. He gets a handy draw two and should be right up there when they hit the line.

KIRKEBY is the stable companion to the top choice and who has finished second in two of his last three outings, the latest over nine furlongs when beaten a head. He was bumped jumping that day and then raced in restricted room shortly after that before only seeing daylight at the 350M mark, so should be considered an unlucky loser. He is drawn in gate five and makes a solid back-up for the powerful Chris Waller yard.

HIGHLY DESIRED jumped awkwardly, but recovered quickly to go from jump to wire to win his last start over a mile by three lengths. From his wide draw twelve, he is likely to adopt similar tactics today.

Race 8.

CROSS TALK record so far is six runs for four wins, a second and a third place finish and has won two of his last three outings, the latest when putting 3.8L between himself and the opposition. He jumped awkwardly that day, but sat in fourth place before kicking clear of the field at the 250M to put the race to bed at that point. He will have to negotiate draw ten, but he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

JOJO WAS A MAN missed out on his hat-tick after two wins over seven furlongs when finishing a short-head second over the same journey last time out. He came three wide into the home straight in that contest and then hung in from the 200M mark. His objection against the winner on the grounds of interference over the closing stages was overruled and the result stood. The gelding gets a useful gate three and could emerge as the biggest danger to the top choice.

GOLD TRIP had solid staying form over in France, finishing third last time out over twelve furlongs, just over a length behind the winner. He has his first run in Australia after finishing second in his only barrier trial and has a wide draw eleven, but the betting should be the best guide as to his chances of winning on debut in Sydney.

Race 9.

EASY SINGLE won over five furlongs three runs back and then had to be held up in the home straight, only being able to switch for a clear run at the 150M pole, before finishing third last time out over 1100M, just over two and a half lengths back from the winner, so that effort can be forgiven. He faces a wide draw nine, but he should be able to work his way across without using up too much gas. A 4yr old filly and a 5yr old mare could chase him home, with the slight preference going to SIEGE, who missed out on her hat-trick when finishing fourth last time out over 1100M, 1.3L off the winner, but she stayed on well that day and the form of the race has been franked. She gets a kinder draw three and should keep the top pick honest.

ENCHANTED HEART had solid form prior to finishing a disappointing sixteenth in her last outing over seven furlongs, 7.3L adrift of the victor, but that was in a Group 1 event, so perhaps the effort was not as bad as it first looks. She jumps from a wideish gate eight and will be hoping to bounce back to some of her better form here.

Race 10.

The day’s value bet, NERONE has won two of his last three runs, the latest over seven furlongs by one and a half lengths. He struck the front at the 150M mark that day and then fought off the chasing pack in the dash down to the wire. The gelding gets gate six and could secure his seventh career win today.

SUR LA MER is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys and who missed out on her hat-trick after wins over 1300M and seven furlongs when ending up in second spot last time out over seven furlongs, 2.3L behind the winner. She came three wide into the home straight on that occasion, but stayed on well over the latter stages of the race. She has cracked pole position should give the males a good run for their money.

TITANIUM POWER won his penultimate outing over 1300M and then finished second last time out over seven furlongs, 3.8L behind the winner, but he did hang in all the way down the home stretch that day, so should have finished closer to the winner that he officially did. He on the other hand will have to deal with a wide gate fourteen, but he will have ex-SA jockey Glyn Schofield in the irons, so will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle.
