Race 5
NOT IN DOUBT is a 4-year-old filly taking on the boys. She finished fourth on debut over five furlongs and then made the expected improvement to win her next start by one length when stepping up to six furlongs. She showed plenty of toe that day and from a wide gate twelve, she should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy. The filly returns from a 23-week break, but did finish third in her only barrier trial and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.
DON’TCHA THINK followed up his penultimate run victory over five furlongs with a fourteenth place finish next time out over six furlongs, six and a half lengths back from the winner, but he reared at the start and raced four wide throughout, so that effort is best ignored. The gelding has his first run after a longer 27-week absence, but has had two barrier trials, finishing second in the latest. From his kinder gate two, he could emerge as the biggest danger to the top choice.
HOMBRE had his consistency rewarded with his second career victory last time out over five furlongs by putting three lengths between himself and the opposition. He went from jump to wire that day and the form of that race has stood up well with three runners out of that contest subsequently winning. The gelding has his peak run after returning from a 32-week break and from his handy draw four and with 4kgs being taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice, he should be involved in the finish.
Race 6
The day’s value bet, DEION has won two of his last four starts and finished third in the other two, with his latest victory coming over five furlongs by a short-head. He overraced in the early and middle stages that day, but battled all the way down to the wire to record his second career victory. He was returning from a 13-week rest that day and whilst drawn wideish in gate eight, he should turn in another honest performance here.
LAST FRONTIER has only had three runs to date, winning two and finishing third in the other. The latest victory was achieved when delivering a powerful finish to win over six furlongs by a length. He came from some way back in that event and from a wide draw fourteen, he is likely to be dropped out of it in the early stages and then start to pick off the front runners over the latter part of the race.
SHINE YOUR LIGHT is a 3-year-old filly taking on males. She had solid form prior to being a tad disappointing when finishing eighth last time out over six furlongs, five and a half lengths adrift of the victor. Still, she was slow away on that occasion and overraced in the early stages, having to ease off the heels of another runner at the 900M mark. From her kinder draw seven, she should not be easily overlooked.
Race 7
RAPBIDASH is a 4-year-old filly taking on boys, but she is seldom far off the action, finishing third last time out over seven furlongs, just over three and a half lengths back from the winner, but that was at a stronger center, and she was disappointed for a run at the 200M mark, before staying on well over the closing stages. She jumps from draw seven and should turn in another solid performance today.
Although DEMITASSE is recorded as finishing eighth last time out over six furlongs, he was just over three lengths back from the winner and he was hampered in the latter stages, so he had his excuse. He will have to negotiate a wide gate thirteen, but with better luck in running, he should be right up there when they hit the line.
SHARP SHOCK has finished second in his last two outings, the latest over seven furlongs, 3.3L off the winner, but that was also at a stronger centre. The gelding has pulled gate six and should be included in all bets.
Race 8
JACENZA won over 1300M three runs back, finished third in his penultimate start over 1300M and then seventh in his latest outing over six furlongs, three lengths behind the winner, but he was slow away that day, finding himself towards the rear of the field and then did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight, so a line should be drawn through that effort. The gelding jumps from gate six and will have 1.5kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice.
OUTBACK RINGER jumped awkwardly bumping another runner, but recovered quickly to take up the running, only to be run out of it in the home stretch, ending up in twelfth spot, just under four and a half lengths back from the winner, but the form of that race has been franked. The gelding faces a wide draw ten, but he is a speedy sort who should be able to work his way across without using up too much gas.
AESTHETE hit the front at the 200M mark and then held off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire to win his last start over seven furlongs by 2.3L. He is drawn one inside the latter and gets the services of a 1,5kg claiming apprentice.
