Race 5

There are two unraced runners in the field, so keep an eye on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether either of the connection believes that they can win first time out. Any betting support for either or both of them should be respected. Of the raced runners NOT TAKING IT may prove to be the best. She has finished second in her last two runs, the latest when just a half-length behind the winner over 1100M, but she did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight that day, before finishing off her race well. She gets gate seven and will be looking to go one better today.

MISS STATEMENT showed marked improvement to finish second last time out over five furlongs, three lengths back from the winner. She showed plenty of toe in that contest and from a handy draw two, if she is able to confirm that last effort, she should be a big runner in this line-up.

CAVENTE has finished closer to the winner in each of her last three runs, the latest when third over five furlongs, three lengths adrift of the victor. She raced just behind the leaders that day and then stayed on well over the closing stages. She was returning from an 18 week break on that occasion and does face a wide draw seventeen, but she should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy and should be included in all bets.

Race 6

With the late scratching of one of her main rivals, the door may have opened for today’s best bet, AKAUWHEO to chalk up her second career victory. She is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys, but she finished third on debut over six furlongs and then showed the expected improvement on win by one and a half lengths next time out over seven furlongs. She went from jump to wire that day and then held off the chasing pack in the dash down to the wire. Needless to say, she would have come on further with that run under her belt and from a useful gate four, she could prove hard to topple.

ILOVETHEGAME is seldom far off the action and finished strongly to end up in fourth place last time out over six furlongs, 1.8L off the winner. She is drawn one inside the top choice and could emerge as her biggest threat.

ROSSY’S TYPA GIRL is another 3yr old filly in the field who followed up her penultimate run victory over six furlongs with a fourth-place finish next time out over five furlongs, just over five lengths adrift of the winner, when returning from a 12 week absence. She was hampered shortly after the start that day and faces a wide gate eleven, but on the plus side, she will get 2kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice.

Race 7

The day’s value bet, DANTE ALIGHIERI last three runs have yielded a second and two third place finishes, the latest over seven furlongs, two lengths off the winner. The gelding sat just behind the leader that day and then stayed on well over the latter stages. He will have to negotiate draw eight, but he is likely to turn in another honest performance today.

POINTILLISM is a 3yr old filly taking on males. She finished fourth first time out over 1100M and the fourth again next time out when stepping up to seven furlongs, just over two lengths behind the winner, but she was slow away in that race, but nevertheless made good late progress over the latter stages. She will have to overcome a wide draw thirteen, but she should be doing her best work late.

TYROL was another who was slow away when ending up in fourth place last time out over 1100M, 1.8L back from the victor, but he finished strongly that day suggesting that the extra ground on offer today will be to his liking. The form of that race has been franked and from a kinder gate five, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

Race 8

MR TABASCO has won two of his last four outings, the latest his penultimate start over six furlongs and then finished fourth over the same sprint trip, just under two and a half lengths behind the winner, but he was bumped at the start that day and came four wide into the home straight. He returns from a 20-week spell without having had the benefit of a barrier trial, so his fitness will have to be taken on trust and will have to deal with a wide gate eleven, but given his style of racing, he is likely to be dropped out of it in the early stages and then start to pick off the front runners over the latter part of the race.

ANOTHER SPIRIT also won his penultimate run, but in his case over 1100M and finished sixth next time out over the same journey, 4.3L off the winner. He was slow away in that contest, but delivered a strong finish over the closing stages. If jumping on terms today, he should not be lightly overlooked.

MOSKEETA is a 4yr filly taking on boys and missed out on her hat-trick after wins over five and six furlongs when finishing eleventh last time out over six furlongs, just over twelve lengths adrift of the winner, but that was at a stronger centre. She is drawn the widest of them all in gate thirteen and resumes after a shorter 12-week rest without a barrier trial, but she should give the males a good run for their money.
