Race 5

There are five unraced runners in the field, so as is always the case in these types of races, a keen eye should be kept on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether any of the connections believe that they can win first time out. Any betting support for a runner or runners should be respected.

Of the raced runners, two 4yr old and a 3yr old filly could fight out the finish to this race and complete the trifecta, but REASONABLE may well prove to be the best. She has posted two solid last runs, the latest when second over 1300M, one and a half lengths behind the winner.

She struck the front at the 350Mmark that day, only to be run out of it late and on that performance and even although drawn wideish in gate eight, she should enjoy the drop in distance.

HEY JUDE has consistent formlines to her name and had to weave her way through traffic in the home straight from some way back to end up in third place last time out over 1200M, just over a half length back from the winner. The filly is drawn one outside the top pick, but she should turn in another honest performance here.

MAGICAL ELEGANCE was hampered at the start, but recovered quickly to take up the lead, only to be grabbed in the shadow of the post when finishing second on debut over 1200M, beaten just a short-head.

She would have learnt from that experience and with the natural improvement that can be expected, she should be a big runner in this line-up. The filly faces an even wider draw twelve, but she should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

Race 6

CHEERGAL has consistent formlines to her credit and followed up her penultimate run victory over 1600M with a second place finish next time out over 1200M, just a head back from the winner, when returning from a 24 week break. She delivered a powerful finish over the closing stages and should appreciate the extra ground on offer here.

She has pulled a handy draw four and will have 3kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice. The filly could prove hard to topple and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card. TARTANA did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight when ending up in second place in her latest outing over 1300M, just a length off the victor.

She was returning from a shorter 17 week rest that day and from one gate outside the top pick and with 1.5kgs removed from her allocated weight courtesy of her claiming apprentice, she could be the biggest danger to the top choice.

LUXE ETERNAL has only had two runs to date, winning on debut over 1100M and then finishing fourth next time out over the same sprint trip, 2.3L adrift of the winner, but she was slow away on that occasion, before finishing off her race strongly. She would have come on further with that run under her belt and from gate seven, she should be involved in the finish.

Race 7

CALIFORNIA WAVES followed up his penultimate run victory over 1300M with a third place finish next time out over 1500M, 2.3L back from the winner, this after racing just behind the leaders and then chasing hard all the way down to the wire. He jumps from gate seven and will be looking to record his second career win here.

He renews her rivalry with MISSILE SEEKER who finished fourth last time out in the same race over 1500M mentioned above, just 2.4L back from the victor, but he was slow away in that event, before staying on well over the latter stages.

He has cracked pole position and gets a set of blinkers fitted for the first time and as the pair meet on the same weight terms today, there should not be much separating the pair when they hit the line.

The latter will have ex-SA jockey Keagan Latham in the irons, so he will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle. SATNESS came three wide into the home straight, but battled all the way down to the line when finishing eighth last time out over 1500M, just over four lengths behind the winner. The gelding will have to negotiate a wide draw ten, but nevertheless, he should be included in all bets.

Race 8

The day’s value bet, REBEL RHAPSODY has posted two thirds and a second place finish in his latest outing over 1400M beaten just a head in his last three runs. He was crowded at the start that day, so he had his excuse and from draw five, he will be looking to go one better here.

OMNIC is seldom far off the action, finishing second last time out over 1600M, just a half length back from the winner, but he jumped awkwardly bumping another runner that day, so that effort was encouraging. The gelding will have to overcome a wide draw nineteen, but he is a speedy sort who should be able to work his way across without using up too much gas.

In addition, he will have 1.5kgs taken off his back for the service of his claiming apprentice and gets a set of blinkers fitted for the first time. If these have the desired effect, he should be a big runner here. CUBAN RAIN is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys, but she has finished closer to the winner in each of her last three starts, the latest when second over 1400M, 1.3L behind the victor, this after being slow away.

She will have to deal with a wide gate fourteen, but she is likely to be dropped out of it in the early stages by Keagan Latham and then start to pick off the front runners over the latter part of the race.
