Race 5

VALORIA is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys, but she showed solid improvement to finish third last time out over five furlongs, just over two and a half lengths behind the winner, this despite racing four wide without cover and shifting in at the 300|M mark. She was returning from a 17-week rest that day and her jockey was charged with careless riding, but the form of that race has stood up well with three runners out of that contest subsequently winning. She has also finished second in a subsequent barrier trial and is sure to put her pole position to good use.

RUSSIAN STANDARD has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three runs, the latest when second over five furlongs, one length adrift of the victor. He raced just behind the leader in that event, before finishing off his race well. The gelding has his peak run after returning from a 14-week break and although facing a wide draw thirteen, on the plus side he will get 1.5kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.

MUSICAL AFFAIR is a 3yr old filly who tried to go from jump to wire before ending up in fourth place last time out over 1100M, two and a half lengths back from the winner, but she did hang out down the home straight, so that effort was commendable. She gets a kinder draw five and will have her peak run after returning from a longer 20 week absence. There is an unraced runner in the field, so keep an eye on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether his connections believe that he can win first time out. Any betting support for him should be respected.

Race 6

SEGUSO has finished second in two of his last three outings and put his disappointing penultimate run over 1300M behind him when finishing a short-head second last time out over five furlongs when returning from a 33-week absence. He struck the front at the 200M pole that day, only to be snared in the shadow of the post. The gelding is drawn the widest of them all in gate eleven, but he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy. He will also have 1.5kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice to aid his cause and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

FANAAR on the other hand has cracked pole position and is seldom far off the action, finishing third last time out over five furlongs, just 1.2L back from the winner. He made good late progress in that contest and the form of that race has stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning.

VERY SHARP is a 5yr old mare taking on males. She had to be eased at the 800M mark and then hung out in the home stretch when ending up in second spot last time out 1100M, just a half-length off the winner and the form of that race has been franked. She gets a handy draw three, as well as the services of a 3kgs claiming apprentice and should be involved in the finish.

Race 7

The day’s value bet, MAJESTIC WINGS is a 5yr old mare taking on boys, but she raced three wide without cover throughout when finishing fourth in her latest outing over 1500M, 2.8L behind the victor. She has pulled draw seven and will have 3kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice. The drop in trip should be to her liking and she should give the males a good run for their money.

IMATRUESTAR was held up approaching the home turn when finishing third last time out over 1300M, just over a length and a half off the victor. The gelding will be having his peak run after returning from a 19-week spell and will get the services of a 2kg claiming apprentice.

FINAL STATEMENT had to be eased off the heels of other runners when ending up in third place last time out over seven furlongs, 1.8L adrift of the winner. He faces a wide gate nine, but nevertheless, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

Race 8

OSTRACISED had his consistency rewarded with a victory last time out over 1100M, putting three lengths between himself and the opposition. He went from gun to tape that day and from a useful draw five, he is likely to adopt a similar tactic today to give trainer Cody Morgan a quick double and 1.5kg claiming apprentice jockey Jasper Franklin two legs of the day’s Jackpot, should the top pick win the sixth race. The gelding does return from a 16-week rest without having had the benefit of a barrier trial, so his fitness will have to be taken on trust, but he should turn in another honest performance here.

JUST STROLLING is a speedy sort who won his last start over five furlongs by 1.3L. From pole position, he is likely to try to run them off their feet again today, aided by having 4kgs removed from his back courtesy of his claiming apprentice.

BRIEFLY is a 5yr old mare facing males, but she has consistent formlines to her name and overraced in the early stages before having to be eased at the 600M mark when finishing third last time out over five furlongs, 1.2L behind the winner. She will have to negotiate the widest draw of them all in gate twelve, but she is a speedy sort who should be able to work her way across without using up too much gas.
