Race 5

Two 3yr old and a 4yr old filly could fight out the finish to this race and complete the trifecta, but the day’s best bet, SURRENDERS is taken to lead the field home. She put her disappointing penultimate start over five furlongs behind her when finishing third last time out over the same sprint trip, a length and a half back from the winner, but she was bumped at the start, before hanging in down the home straight. She does return from a 21-week break but has had the two barrier trials, winning the first and finishing third in the other. She gets a handy draw four and the services of Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey, Jeff Lloyd to aid her cause and could prove hard to topple.

SALAASEL also won her penultimate start, but in her case over 1300M and was immediately rested for 23 weeks. She then finished fourth over six furlongs on her return, 4.3L behind the winner, but she jumped awkwardly bumping another runner. She has a useful gate two and could emerge as the biggest danger to the top choice.

ALEGNA has finished second in two of her last three runs, the latest over five furlongs, 5.3L adrift of the victor, but she too jumped awkwardly, bumping another runner at the start, before racing just behind the leader. She is drawn the widest of them all in gate eight, but she should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy. There is an unraced runner in the field, so keep an eye on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether his connections believe that they can win the first time out. Any betting support for her should be respected.

Race 6

The top two places in this race could be filled by a 6yr old and a 5yr old mare, but MISS FOX gets the nod for top spot. She is seldom far off the action and although recorded as finishing eighth last time out over 1100M, she was just 2.7L back from the winner. She did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight that day, only seeing daylight over the closing stages of the race. The form of that race has however stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning and whilst drawn wideish in gate seven, she looks to be the one to side with here.

PRINCESS AMIRA showed marked improvement to win her last start over 1100M, albeit by just a short-head. She was returning from a 29 week spell that day and made good late progress over the latter stages, suggesting that she should enjoy the extra ground on offer today. She is drawn even wider in gate nine, but she should be doing her best work late.

SAFADO is the stable companion to the latter and is drawn one inside her. He hung out all the way down the home straight when finishing third in his latest outing over 1100M, just a half-length off the winner and makes a solid back-up for the yard.

Race 7

This looks to be a tricky race with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. The tentative top pick goes to TAKARA STAR who goes for her hat-trick after two victories over six furlongs, the latest by a half-length. She showed plenty of toe that day and from pole position, she could prove hard to reel in over the closing stages.

BEIRUT MISS on the other hand has pulled a wide draw fifteen out of seventeen. She raced in tight quarters over the closing stages when finishing seventh last time out over seven furlongs, just under three and a half lengths adrift of the victor, so that effort was encouraging. The form of that race has been franked and she has also had two subsequent barrier trials.

RESISTIBLE has finished second in her last two outings, the latest over 1300M where she was beaten a head, despite jumping awkwardly. She recovered quickly to sit just behind the leader in that contest and then struck the front at the 250M mark, only to be nabbed in the shadow of the post. She has not fared much better with her draw, having pulled gate seventeen, but she will have ex-SA jockey Keagan Latham in the irons, so will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

Race 8

SKYLIGHT SONG had his consistency rewarded with his maiden victory last time out over 1300M by 0.8L when returning from a 17-week rest. The gelding had to be checked at the 800M mark that day and although taking on stronger here, he could prove good enough to chalk up a quick double. He is drawn in gate six and could give jockey Josh Parr his second winner in the day’s Jackpot, should the top pick win the second leg.

SURFERS ROYALE was returning from a slightly longer 19-week absence when showing solid improvement to end up in third place last time out over 1300M, just over three lengths behind the winner, but it should be noted that he overraced in the early stages and had to be steadied off the heels of another runner. He jumps from a wide gate nine, but he should be right up there when they hit the line.

BUDHWAR has cracked pole position and had finished third in his two runs prior to ending up in tenth place last time out when stepping up to seven furlongs, just over 6.1L back from the winner, but he overraced in the early and middle stages that day. The gelding drops to what appears to be a more suitable trip and should be included in all bets.
