Race 5

BROK CAFE is a 3-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she won over 1300M three runs back, finished second in her penultimate start over seven furlongs and then seventh in her latest outing, also over seven furlongs, just over two and a half lengths behind the winner, but she raced three wide without cover that day and was then disappointed for a run at the 150M mark and held up at the 100M pole, so she had her excuses. She has a handy draw four and will be having her peak run after returning from a 21-week break.

TYSON’S DREAM was returning from a 23-week rest when showing marked improvement to finish third last time out over seven furlongs, just a neck back from the winner, which clearly was just what he needed. He did jump awkwardly in that event and hung in down the home straight, but from gate six and with him having 1.5kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

OMIANS is a 4-year-old filly who has finished closer to the winner in each of her last three starts, the latest when third over nine furlongs, just a length behind the winner, but she raced three wide throughout before finishing well from some way back. She will have to negotiate a wide draw nine, but she should be doing her best work late.

Race 6

TAPA KICK goes for his hat-trick after victories over six furlongs and the latest over 1500M by a half-length. He sat just behind the frontrunners that day and hung in all the way down the home stretch, but still managed to get his head in front where it mattered. The gelding jumps from draw six and will be having his peak run after returning from a 21-week rest and could give the training partnership of P & L Messara & Gavranich and jockey Aaron Bullock the first two winners of the day’s Jackpot.

SEAHAVEN overraced in the early and middle stages, but still managed to battle all the way down to the wire to finish in second spot last time out over nine furlongs, just a head off the winner. The gelding has a handy draw two and will have 4kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice.

RURA PENTHE has cracked pole position and made good late progress when ending up in third spot in his latest outing over seven furlongs, 1.7L behind the winner. He gets the services of a 1.5kg claiming apprentice and should be included in all bets.

Race 7

EXONUMIA has consistent formlines to his name and overraced early, but just behind the leaders and then just failed to overhaul the winner when finishing second last time out over six furlongs, 0.8L adrift of the winner. The gelding is drawn the widest of them all in gate nine, but he is likely to turn in another honest performance and is taken to be the value bet on the day’s card.

MACLEAY is the stable companion to the top choice and had his consistency rewarded with a half-length victory last time out over seven furlongs. He finished strongly from some way back to claim a well-timed victory. The gelding gets the services of a 1.5kg claiming apprentice and is sure to put his pole position to good use and makes a solid backup for the yard.

SO COUNTRY finished fifth in his latest outing over 1300M, just over two and a half lengths behind the winner, but that was at a stronger centre, and he has moved stables since. The gelding has his first run for his new trainer and if fully settled into his new surroundings, he should give a good account of himself here, jumping from a useful gate two.

Race 8

The day’s best bet, LAST FRONTIER struck the front at the top of the home stretch and was geared down in the run to the wire when winning by one and a half lengths first time out over 1100M and was immediately rested for 14 weeks. He returns here after having had three barrier trials, winning the latest. The gelding has pulled a cosy draw four and could prove hard to topple and complete a red letter day for jockey Aaron Bullock, as well as a quick double for trainer Cody Morgan.

DUBAI BOUND is a 3-year-old filly taking on males, but she showed plenty of toe when putting 3.8L between herself and the opposition to win last time out over six furlongs. She will have to negotiate a wide gate fourteen, but she should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy and appears to be the biggest threat to the top pick.

MCTAGGART tried to go from jump to wire and was only collared late when showing solid improvement to end up in third spot last time out over five furlongs, just under a half length behind the winner. The gelding has a wideish gate eight, but on the plus side, he will have 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice and should be involved in the finish.
